    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain the subject polymer having excellent mechanical and thermal properties, moldable by melt-molding and suitable as an engineering plastics etc., by copolymerizing plural structural units at a specific ratio. CONSTITUTION:The objective polymer having a melt viscosity of 30-30,000 poise is produced by polymerizing (A) 4-hydroxy-4'-diphenyl carboxylic acid forming the structural unit of formula I, (B) chlorohydroquinone, etc., forming the structural unit of formula II (X is group of formula III, etc.), (C) terephthalic acid, etc., forming the structural unit of formula IV (n is 1 or 2) and, as necessary, (B) p-hydroxybenzoic acid, hydroquinone, isophthalic acid, etc., forming the structural units of formula V, VI (m is 1 or 2) and VII (Y is group of formula VIII, etc.) e.g. by melt-polymerization method. The ratios of I/V, (I+V)/(I+V +VI+II) and IV/VII in the obtained polymer are 2/8 to 10/0, 2/8 to 9/1 and 2/8 to 10/0, respectively.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To produce a liquid crystal polyester having a low foreign matter content and improved heat resistance and strengths by constituting it from four specified kinds of structural units. CONSTITUTION:At least one compound selected from among those of formulas I-V (wherein R1 is a group of formula VI or VII or the like group; R2 is a group of formula VI, VIII or the like group; X is H or Cl; and R3 is H or a 1-3C acyl) is subjected to acylation and polycondensation to obtain a liquid crystal polyester comprising structural units of formula IX, structural units of formula X and/or XI and structural units of formula XII, wherein the sum of the structural units of formulas X and XI is substantially equimolar to the structural units of formula II, and having an intrinsic viscosity (in pentafluorophenol in a 0.1g/dl concentration) of 0.5-10dl/g and a melt viscosity of 10-10000 P as measured at the liquid crystal initiation temperature plus 40 deg.C and a shear rate of 1000 (1/sec) with a Koka-type flow tester.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To prepare a highly rigid polyester which is melt moldable, excellent in the mechanical and thermal characteristics, and useful as an engineering plastic by producing the polyester which comprises specific structural units and has a specified logarithmic viscosity. CONSTITUTION:A highly rigid polyester comprising 10-100mol% structural units of formula I and 90-0mol% the sum of structural units of formula II (wherein X is a group of formula III-X; Y is a group of formula VI-XIV) and formula XV (wherein Z is a group of formula IV, V, X, or XIII) and having a logarithmic viscosity of 0.5-20dl/g, in a concn. of 0.1g/dl in pentafluorophenol at 60 deg.C is produced.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To provide a liquid crystal polyester resin composition having excellent hydrolysis resistance and heat cycle resistance by adding an organic epoxy compound and a carbodiimide compound to a liquid crystal polyester comprising specific structural units. CONSTITUTION:A liquid crystal polyester resin composition comprises (A) 100 pts.wt. of an anisotropic melt phase-forming liquid crystal polyester having a thermal deformation temperature of >=150 deg.C and comprising structural units of formulas I, II and III [R1 is a group of formula IV, V, VI, etc.; R2, R3 are a group of formula IV, V, VII (X is H or Cl), etc.], the sum of the groups of formulas I and II being 75-95mol%, the amount of the group of formula III being 25-5mol% based on the total amount of the composition and the molar ratio of the group of formula I to the group of formula II being 75/25-95/5, (B) 0.005-10 pts.wt. of an organic epoxy compound, preferably a compound of formula VIII (Ar is 6-20C aromatic group or alicyclic group; n is 0-20), (C) 0.005-10 pts.wt. of a carbodiimide compound and preferably further (D) 0-200 pts.wt. of a filler.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain the titled melt-moldable polyester having excellent fluidity, heat-resistance and mechanical properties and suitable as electronic and electrical apparatus parts, etc., by copolymerizing plural kinds of aromatic dihydroxy compounds at a specific ratio. CONSTITUTION:The objective polyester having a logarithmic viscosity of 1.0-20.0dl/g can be produced by (1) mixing (A) p-hydroxybenzoic acid forming the structural unit of formula I, (B) terephthalic acid and/or isophthalic acid forming a part of the structural unit of formula II, (C) 4,4'-dihydroxybiphenyl forming the remaining part of the structural unit of formula II, (D) t- butylhydroquinone forming a part of the structural unit of formula III and, if necessary, (E) hydroquinone, etc., forming a part of the structural unit of formula IV (X is group of formula V, etc.) and (2) subjecting the mixture e.g. to deacetylation polycondensation reaction. The amount of the unit of formula I in the mixture is 30-90mol.% and the molar ratios of II/III and IV/(II+III+ IV) are 5/95-20/80 and 0-40mol.%, respectively.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain the titled melt-moldable polyester having excellent fluidity, heat-resistance and mechanical properties and suitable as engineering plastics, etc., by copolymerizing a disubstituted hydroquinone to an aromatic polyester at a specific ratio. CONSTITUTION:The objective polyester having a logarithmic viscosity of 0.1-20.0dl/g can be produced by (1) mixing (A) p-hydroxybenzoic acid forming the constituent unit of formula I, (B) (i) terephthalic acid and/or isophthalic acid and (ii) an aromatic dihydroxy compound such as 4,4'-dihydroxybiphenyl forming the constituent unit of formula II (X is group of formula III, etc.) and (C) a disubstituted hydroquinone [e.g. 2,5-di(t-butyl)hydroquinone] forming the constituent unit of formula IV (Y is group of formula V, etc.) and (2) subjecting the mixture e.g. to deacetylation polycondensation reaction. The ratio of the unit of formula I and that of formula II+III in the mixture are 40-90mol.% and 60-10mol.%, respectively, and the molar ratio of the unit of formula II/ formula III is 9/1-1/9.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To form an aromatic polymer excellent in flow, heat resistance and impact resistance, by combining three specified kinds of structural units. CONSTITUTION:This aromatic polymer consists of structural units I-III represented by formulas I-III, wherein structural units I amount to 40-90mol% based on the total, structural units (II+III) amount to 60-10mol% based on the total and the ratio of structural units (III) to structural units (II+III) is 1-40mol%.     Abstract: PURPOSE:To provide the titled novel aromatic polyester having a specific structure and composition composed of a condensation product of an aromatic oxycarboxylic acid, an aromatic dicarboxylic acid and a bisphenol compound, moldable by meltmolding and having excellent fluidity, heat-resistance and mechanical properties. CONSTITUTION:The objective polyester composed of the units of formula I-IV [X is (substituted) phenylene, biphenylene, naphthylene, etc.; Y is phenylene, biphenylene, naphthylene, etc.] and having a longarithmic viscosity of 0.5-15dl/g measured in pentafluorophenol (0.1g/dl concentration at 60 deg.C) can be produced by deacetylation polymerization of p-acetoxybenzoic acid, a substituted hydroquinone, diacetate of bisphenol compound, etc., and terephthalic acid, etc., in nitrogen gas atmosphere. The ratio of the structural unit of formula I in the above polymer is 40-90mol% and that of the structural units of formula II-IV is 60.10mol%. The molar ratio of the unit of formula II/III is 8/2-2/8 and that of IV/(II-IV) is 1-40mol%.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To provide the compsn. having excellent adhesion and resistance to low-temperature impact and heat cycles, consisting of a specified copolyester and a polybutylene terephthalate copolymer.
