    Abstract: PURPOSE:To produce the titled polymer having thermal reversibility to become hydrophobic at high temperature and reversibly convertible between a water-soluble state at low temperature and water-insoluble state at high temperature, in high efficiency, by the radical polymerization of N-methyl-N-n- propylacrylamide. CONSTITUTION:The objective polymer of formula II is produced by the radical polymerization of N-methyl-N-n-propylacrylamide of formula I usually in the form of a 1-80wt% solution under radiation of actinic ray, heating in the presence of radical polymerization initiator or radiation of light in the presence of a photo-sensitizer, etc. USE:Light-shielding material for greenhouse or chemical laboratory, etc., temperature sensor, toys, interior goods, mechanochemical element material, etc.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To safely and economically detect protein immobilized on a membrane with high sensitivity, by a simple means wherein the membrane having protein immobilized thereon is treated with a palladium colloid solution with predetermined pH stabilized by a surfactant and a base metal is applied to the treated membrane by an electroless plating. CONSTITUTION:A membrane such as a nitrocellulose having protein immobilized thereon is treated with a palladium colloid solution with pH 5 or less stabilized by an anionic surfactant such as sodium dodecylbenzenesulfonate and a base metal is subsequently applied to the treated membrane by electroless plating. The content of palladium in the palladium colloid solution is 0.01-30mmol/l and the content of the surfactant is 0.001-5wt%. The pH of said colloid solution is pref. adjusted by an acid such as acetic acid or hydrochloric acid. The membrane having protein immobilized thereon is immersed in the palladium colloid solution to be stained and, thereafter, the electroless plating of the base metal is applied to said membrane to enhance detection sensitivity.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To prepare a uniform, transparent and stable gold or silver organosol, by mixing a alkylpyridinium salt type surfactant and alkali metal borohydride in an aqueous solution and acting an aqueous gold or silver salt solution on the resulting mixture. CONSTITUTION:An alkylpyridinium salt type surfactant and alkali metal borohydride are mixed in an aqueous solution and a gold or silver salt is made to act on the resulting mixture to form a gold or silver hydrosol. Subsequently, an water-soluble metal salt is added to the hydrosol or an org. solvent is added to the solid obtained by allowing the hydrosol to be evaporated to dryness to obtain a gold or silver organosol. As the gold or silver salt, gold (III) chloride or silver nitrate is pref. and used in such a range that the concn. of gold or silver in the hydrogel is 0.1-5mg atom/l.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain the titled resin suitable for the adsorption and recovery of trace metallic ion dissolved in seawater, by reacting a specific polyethylenimine derivative with hydroxylamine. CONSTITUTION:The objective resin having the hydroxamic acid residue of formula on the side chain can be produced by (1) reacting (A) a crosslinked polyethylenimine polymer compound obtained e.g. by the graft-polymerization of polyethylenimine to crosslinked polystyrene, etc., with (B) an acrylic acid ester e.g. in a dispersing medium (e.g. water) to obtain a polyethylenimine derivative having propionic acid ester residue on the side chain, (2) suspending the product in a solvent containing hydroxylamine and (3) reacting at a temperature between room temperature and the boiling point of the solvent for 1-5 days.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To form a metallic film having superior adhesion by plating with high reproducibility by etching and pretreating a molded body of polyethylene terephthalate and immersing it in palladium hydrosol contg. an anionic surfactant. CONSTITUTION:A molded body of polyethylene terephthalate is etched by immersion in an aqueous soln. of an alkali metallic hydride. The molded body is immersed in an aqueous soln. of a cationic surfactant or metallic hydroxide hydrosol. The pretreated molded body is immersed in palladium hydrosol contg. one or more kinds of compounds selected among anionic surfactants, nonionic surfactants and water soluble polymers such as polyvinylpyrrolidone to stick palladium colloid to the surface of the molded body. The palladium hydrosol contains no impurities, has stability for a long period and forms palladium colloid having high catalytic activity. The treated molded body is chemically plated. A metallic film having superior adhesion is simply formed.

USE:Useful as a raw material monomer for hydrophilic-hydrophobic thermoreversible high polymers. PREPARATION:For example, acryloyl chloride or methacryloyl chloride expressed by formula II is reacted with a 3-alkoxypropylamine expressed by formula III and triethylamine expressed by formula IV in a solvent preferably at 0-10 deg.C to obtain the compound expressed by formula I. A polymer prepared from the compound expressed by formula I is a thermoreversible derivative, which dissolves in water at low temperatures, reversibly becomes insoluble in water at high temperatures and is useable for a light shield, thermosensor, adsorbent, toy, etc.
