Abstract: Propylene copolymers which comprise a propylene homopolymer (I) and a randomly distributed propylene copolymer (II) containing from 15 to 80 % by weight of copolymerised C2- to C10-alk-1-enes, and have been grafted by means of alpha , beta -ethylenically unsaturated carboxylic acids or carboxylic acid derivatives, and are obtainable by reacting the graft monomer with the propylene copolymer at pressures of from 1 to 300 bar, where, in the presence of from 0.005 to 0.5 % by weight of an initiator which decomposes to form free radicals, from 0.01 to 1.0 % by weight of the monomer to be grafted on, where both concentrations are based on propylene copolymer, is mixed with the molten propylene copolymer, and the grafting reaction is carried out at from 200 to 350 DEG C.

Abstract: The invention relates to thermoplastic moulding compounds based on a heat-resistant plastic which contains, as filler, 0.5 to 50 % by weight of an oxide of an element from main group III to V, a salt of the oxo-acid of an element from main group III to V or a compound which forms an oxide or salt of this type when heated. The moulding compounds are suitable for the production of interior parts of passenger vehicles, in particular aircraft, of low smoke density and low heat output in the event of fire.

Abstract: The mfr. of tubular or hollow moulded parts comprises (i) forming a network of thermoplastic fibres and reinforcing fibres (hybrid yarn), the contours being those of the part; (ii) introducing a thin-walled, extensible tube in the network; (iii) inserting the structure in a multicomponent form; (iv) heating at a temp. above the melt temp. of the thermoplastic fibres to consolidate the part; and (v) cooling and demoulding. The tube is partly filled with a propellant contg. thermoplastic which, on heating, foams producing a pressure which compresses the yarn network. Pref. the thermoplastic fibre are of a polyamide. The thermoplastic contg. propellant is a polyamide polysulphone or polyether sulphone. The tube is of rubber modified polyamide or silicone rubber. USE/ADVANTAGE - Used for tennis racquet, golf clubs, baseball bats and tyre frames. Tubular parts of variable dia and hollow parts can be mfd. in the same way.
