    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain an emulsion polymer, useful as coatings, etc., and capable of providing films excellent in strength by carrying out emulsion copolymerization of an ethylenically unsaturated monomer with a polyfunctional ethylenically unsaturated monomer using a specific emulsion dispersion stabilizer. CONSTITUTION:A radical polymerizable ethylenically unsaturated monomer (e.g. ethylene or styrene) or a diene-based monomer (e.g. butadiene or isoprene) and a polyfunctional ethylenically unsaturated monomer (e.g. divinylbenzene or tetraallyloxyethane) are subjected to emulsion copolymerization using a PVA-based polymer having mercapto groups at the terminals as an emulsion dispersion stabilizer. The PVA-based polymer having the mercapto groups at the terminals is preferably obtained by polymerizing a vinyl monomer consisting essentially of monomers of vinyl esters in the presence of a thiolic acid and then saponifying the produced PVA-based polymer. Thiolacetic acid is preferred as the thiolic acid and vinyl acetate is preferred as the vinyl ester monomers.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain the title material capable of easily releasing and recovering cultured cells through merely changing the ambient temperature with impurity contamination prevented while maintaining cell performance by successively coating a substrate surface with a cell-attaching substance layer and a specific polymer layer. CONSTITUTION:The objective material can be obtained by coating (A) a substrate surface with (B) a cell-attaching substance (e.g. oligosaccharide, gelatin) followed by (C) a homopolymer or copolymer with the critical dissolving temperature to water of 0-80 deg.C. Sand homopolymer or copolymer can be obtained by (co)polymerization of monomer(s) such as (meth)acrylamide and/or N- acryloylpyrrolidine.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To produce easily and inexpensively an aqueous solution or slurry of a metal salt of a maleic anhydride copolymer by copolymerizing maleic anhydride with a copolymerizable vinyl monomer in a specified organic solvent, adding a metal (hydr)oxide and water to reaction mixture, and reaction them under heating while distilling off the organic solvent. CONSTITUTION:Maleic anhydride is copolymerized with at least one vinyl monomer copolymerizable therewith (e.g. styrene) in an organic solvent which can dissolve these monmers but cannot dissolve the obtained copolymer (e.g. toluene). A metal hydroxide or a metal oxide (e.g. ZnO) and water are added to the obtained copolymer slurry and reacted under heating while distilling off the organic solvent. In this way, an aqueous solution or slurry of a metal salt of a maleic anhydride copolymer is obtained. The obtained aqueous solution or slurry can desirably be used as an adhesive, a nonburning coating agent, a cement dispersing agent or the like.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain an electrophotographic sensitive body having sufficient photoconductivity to semiconductor laser beams and to enable an electric charge generating material to be maintained in a stably dispersed state in a charge generating layer by incorporating a silicon-naphthalocyanine having a specified structure in the charge generating layer. CONSTITUTION:The electrophotographic sensitive body is composed of a conductive substrate, and both the charge generating layer and a charge transfer layer laminated on the substrate. The charge generating layer contains the silicon-naphthalocyanine compound represented by the formula shown on the right, each of R1 and R2 being branched >=4C alkyl, alkenyl, or cycloalkyl, optionally same or different, such as bis(2-ethylhexyloxy)(2,3-naphthalocynate)- silicon, in a compound to binder weight ratio of 80:20-20:80, preferably, 70:30-30:70. It is preferred to form the charge generating layer on the conductive substrate and on this layer the charge transfer layer.
