    Abstract: PURPOSE:To provide the base material for plastic lenses which has excellent rigidity and workability and is less colored by mixing a compd. having >=1.3 pieces, in molar average, of CH2=CX- groups in the molecule and a compd. having >=1.1 pieces, in molar average, of -SH groups into the base material at such a ratio at which the specific molar ratio is attained. CONSTITUTION:This base material contains the residual groups having >=1.3 pieces, in molar average, of the unit expressed by a (-CH2-CHX-) unit and (-CH2-CX-) (where X denotes hydrogen or methyl group) as the component of repeating units and the residual group having >=1.1 pieces, in molar average, of (-S-) bonded to the methylene group in the repeating unit component. The molar ratio of this two units has the relation shown by the following A, B: A:0.1

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To provide the title composition excellent in weather resistance, stain resistance and abrasion resistance, which comprises a graft polymer obtained by polymerizing a (meth)acrylic fluoroalkyl ester, a functional (meth)acrylic alkyl ester and a specific macromonomer, and a curing agent. CONSTITUTION:The title curable composition comprises a graft polymer (A) obtained by polymerizing 3-90wt.% (meth)acrylic fluoroalkyl ester monomer (a), 5-30wt.% functional (meth)acrylic alkyl ester monomer (b) and 5-90wt.% macromonomer (c) having a radical-polymerizable double bond and a molecular weight of 800-10,000, and a curing agent (B) having a functional group reactive with the polymer (A) (e.g., hexamethylene diisocyanate). This composition is quite suitable as a coating agent having stain resistance and weather resistance for buildings, cars, railway vehicles, air planes, ships, electric articles, etc., or as a binder composition for magnetic recording media.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain optical transmission performance which is excellent in a visible to near IR region by using a polymer or copolymer as a core of a plastic optical fiber having core-cladding structure. CONSTITUTION:Deuterated pentafluorophenyl methacrylate, 0.1mol% azobis tert-butane and 0.1mol% n-butyl mercaptan are mixed in the substantial absence of dust and oxygen and are polymerized for 24hr at 130 deg.C in a hermetic system. After the unreacted monomers are removed under a reduced pressure, the copolymer is melt-extruded simultaneously with a cladding polymer by using a composite mouthpiece, by which the optical fiber is prepd. Spinning is executed at 220 deg.C and a copolymer of hexafluoropropyl methacrylate/MMA is used for the cladding material.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain a plastic lens having good transparency and color tones and a high refractive index by using a specific crosslinked structure formable org. compd. as an essential component, adding a dye having a complementary color relation with the lens color tone to said compd. and polymerizing the same. CONSTITUTION:The dye having the complementary color relation with the color tone of the high refractive index plastic lens having >=1.50 refractive index nd and essentially consisting of the crosslinked structure formable org. compd. is added to the compsn. for producing said lens and the compsn. is polymerized. A radically polymerizable multifunctional org. vinyl monomer contg. an arom. ring is effective as the compd. having such high refractive index and crosslinked structure characteristic and further such vinyl monomer is more preferable if said monomer contains halogen elements except fluorine. A disperse die is preferable as the dye to be added to the compsn. for the purpose of improving the color tone and is preferably used at about 0.01-100ppm. The color tone of the plastic lens having the particularly high refractive index is thereby improved and the resulted lens has the stable color tone effect even if the lens is left standing under heating or UV rays such as outdoor exposure.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain a resin for plastic lens having high refractive index by polymerizing a specified amt, of a mixture consisting of two specified components having 0.5-2.0 molar ratio of NCO/OH with a specified amt. of a vinyl monomer having 1.55 refractive index. CONSTITUTION:20-100wt% mixture of an isocyanate compd. having >=2 functionality and molar ratio NCO/OH adjusted to 0.5-2.0 with a vinyl monomer having an OH group and expressed by the formula (wherein R is methyl or H), or an addition reaction product thereof is mixed with 0-80wt% vinyl monomer having >=1.55 refractive index of its polymer, and a reaction between the isocyanate group and an OH group is proceeded to completion by the addition of an addition reaction catalyst. Then, the reaction product is poured together with a polymerization initiator into a mold, polymerized by heating to obtain a plastic lens having high refractive index.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:A resin for tough plastic lenses having a refractive index >=1.55, comprising a polymer obtained by the vinyl polymerization of a specified urethanized (meth)acryl monomer. CONSTITUTION:A urethanized (meth)acryl monomer is synthesized by reacting the OH groups of a (meth)acryl monomer of the formula (wherein R1 and R2 are each H or methyl, m+n=0-4, and X is Cl, I, or Br) with the NCO groups of a polyisocyanate. This monomer is vinyl-polymerized to obtain the purpose resin. Although the above monomer can be vinyl-polymerized alone to obtain a resin for high-refractive index lenses, the urethanized (meth)acrylic monomer (a first vinyl monomer) may be copolymerized with another vinyl monomer having an aromatic ring in the molecule (a second vinyl monomer).

    Abstract: PURPOSE:An epoxy resin elastomer excellent in flexibility, electrical properties, water resistance, etc., and suitable as an electrical-insulating material or the like, containing an epoxy resin prepared by reacting a liquid polybutadiene with an epoxy compound and an acid anhydride as a resin component. CONSTITUTION:40-80wt% liquid polybutadiene and (or) its derivative (e.g., polybutadiene glycol, polybutadienedicarboxylic acid) are reacted with 10-40wt% epoxy compound containing at least two oxirane rings in the molecule (e.g., vinylcyclohexene dioxide, neopentyl glycol diglycidyl ether) and 10-40wt% acid anhydride (e.g., phthalic anhydride, maleic anhydride). Then, the purpose epoxy resin elastomer is prepared by mixing the produced epoxy resin as a resin component with, if necessary, a filler, a flame retardant, a colorant, etc.
