Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a power semiconductor module constituted of submodules having integrated heat sinks. SOLUTION: Each of submodules 2 comprises a board 6 having at least a semiconductor chip 3 soldered to its top 6a, while its bottom 6b is sealed together with a heat sink 7 having a knob or rib-like AlSiC, CuSiC, AlSi, Al or Cu cooling body 7a. A cooling structure 7b may be directly sealed tougher with the board 6. The power semiconductor module having heat sinks 7 integrated with the submodules 2 is characterized by enhanced reliability and long life, compact design and high power density. The modular structures 2, 7 of this module 1 are compatible with integration with other elements, e.g., control electronics, printed circuit boards and bus bars.

Abstract: The current limiting device is formed by a pair of zig zag shaped PTC resistors (1,2) that are placed in parallel and are separated by an insulating layer. Electrical connection points (A,B) are formed at each end. The reactive layers can be formed in a foil using a chemical or electro-chemical process. The layers may be located in grooves formed in a thermally cooling material that has flow channels through which a cooling fluid flows.

Abstract: Strombegrenzer, vorzugsweise aus Kaltleitern (21, 22), werden zur Kurzschlußstrombegrenzung in Reihenschaltung zu Kondensatoren und Stromrichterventilen eingesetzt. Mit diesen Kaltleitern (21, 22) betriebene Schutzeinrichtungen können reversibel arbeiten und lichtbogenfrei ansprechen. Sie sind niederinduktiv und raumsparend einsetzbar. Schutzschaltungen mit derartigen Kaltleitern (21, 22) sind verlustarm, rüttelfest und in einen bestehenden Kühlkreislauf integrierbar; sie sprechen autonom an und ermöglichen eine flexible Applikation. Die Kaltleiter (21, 22) sind vorzugsweise mäanderförmig aus porösem Metallschaum oder aus einem Metallgeflecht oder -gewebe ausgeführt und weisen elektrische Kontaktbrücken (23, 23'; 24, 24') zwischen ihren Widerstandsbahnen (21a - 21c; 22a - 22c) auf. Mindestens 2 elektrisch parallelgeschaltete Widerstandsbahnen sind in geringem Abstand übereinander derart angeordnet, daß Teilströme (I1, I2) durch so gebildete Widerstandszweige in übereinanderliegenden Bahnbereichen in zueinander entgegengesetzten Richtungen fließen. Die Widerstandsbahnen können auch in Nuten eines Kühlkörpers angeordnet sein oder kreisförmige Gestalt aufweisen. In einer Reihenschaltung zu mäanderförmigen, parallelgeschalteten Widerstandsbahnen kann ein Kompensationswiderstand zur Kompensation von unkompensierten Randbereichen dieser Widerstandsbahnen vorgesehen sein.
