    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing 2,5,6-trimethyl-2-cyclohexen-1-one in industrial scale, good yield and good space time yield. SOLUTION: This method for producing 2,5,6-trimethyl-2-cyclohexen-1-on comprises simultaneously pumping 1 mol crotonaldehyde or 1 mol compound which is converted under the reaction conditions into crotonaldehyde, about 5-30 mol diethyl ketone and the aqueous solution or suspension of a strong base in the presence of a base agent at elevated temperature, through separate lines or at least partly in the form of a suitable mixture, continuously into a pressure vessel, which is heated where appropriate and which ensures vigorous mixing, in such a way that the reaction temperature is 150-350 deg.C and the average residence time in the pressure vessel is about 0.1 second to 20 min.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To produce a highly pure phytantriol useful for cosmetics or the like in high yield without using a heavy metal compound by rectifying a crude phytantriol in a column including a metallic packing material under a specific condition. SOLUTION: Phytantriol obtained by reacting isophytol with performic acid, and saponifying the formed reaction product with an alkaline chemical, and contaminated with byproducts having the lower boiling point and/or the higher boiling point is rectified in a column including a metallic packing material having a regular structure under a moderate vacuum while completely blocking the air under an insulation condition by using an apparatus regulated so that (i) the distribution of a liquid may be carried out by a pass-distributor 6 having >=500 per m2 dropping points, (ii) the passes of the liquid distributor 6 may be arranged so as to form 90 deg. angle to fabric layers of packing material elements 7 and 8 just under the distributor 6, and (iii) two or more fabric layers of the packing material elements having 20-100 mm height may be arranged under the distributor so as to rotate 90 deg. angle to each other.

SOLUTION: In the method for producing the (1-10C)alkyl 2-keto-L-gulonate by esterifying 2-keto-L-gulonic acid or diacetone-2-keto-L-gulonic acid with a 1-10C alcohol in the presence of an acidic catalyst, esterification is carried out in the hot surface of a liquid film while removing water at the same time. Solid is not formed in a reactor though keto-L-gulonic acid is difficultly soluble in an lower alcohol such as methanol, ethanol, propanol, butanol or pentanol and a produced ester is present in a state not containing a solvent after removing water.

    Abstract: Process to rectify mixts. of high-boiling air and / or temp. sensitive substances requiring a high sepn. efficiency. Process is carried out in a fine vacuum (pref. 0.1-2 mbar) in columns contg. metal fabric packing of an ordered structure. The liq. distribution is carried out by channel distributors with at least 500 drainage points per square metre. The distributor channels are arranged at around 90 degrees to the fabric layers of the packing elements directly under these distributors. Two or more packing elements of height 20-100 mm are inserted below the distributor, whose fabric layers are turned at around 90 degrees to each other. The process is run in the complete absence of air and the rectification is operated strictly adiabatically. Also claimed are columns with output and enhancement sections contg. metal fabric packing for the above process.
