Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of producing monoisopropylamine(MIPA), capable of overcoming disadvantages of conventional methods and therefore capable of economically improving the methods, when the MIPA is produced by aminating acetone with ammonia and simultaneously hydrogenating with hydrogen. SOLUTION: This method of producing the MIPA comprises reacting the acetone with the ammonia and the hydrogen in the presence of a catalyst at a high temperature under an increased pressure, wherein the catalyst has a main body for catalytic activity which contains aluminum dioxide (Al2O3), zirconium dioxide (ZrO2), titanium dioxide (TiO2) and/or silicon dioxide (SiO2) in an amount of 20-90 wt.%, an oxygen-containing copper compound in an amount of 1-70 wt.% (calculated as CuO), an oxygen-containing nickel compound in an amount of 1-70 wt.% (calculated as NiO) and an oxygen-containing cobalt compound in an amount of 1-70 wt.% (calculated as CoO), when measured at a time after the catalyst is produced but before the catalyst is subjected to hydrogenation treatment.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing an amine at a high conversion without yielding by-products, and to obtain a catalyst for producing the amine. SOLUTION: This method comprises production of an amine by the reaction of a primary or secondary alcohol with a nitrogen compound selected from ammonia and primary and secondary amines at 80-250 deg.C, 0.1-40 MPa in the presence of a catalyst consisting of zirconium, copper, and nickel. The catalytically active ingredient contains 20-85 wt.% of an oxygen-containing zirconium compound (as calculated as ZrO2 ), 1-30 wt.% of an oxygen-containing copper compound (as calculated as CuO), 4-70 wt.% of an oxygen-containing nickel compound (as calculated as NiO), and 0-10 wt.% of an oxygen-containing aluminum and/or manganese compound(s) (as calculated as Al2 O3 and/or MnO2 ), but no oxygen-containing cobalt or molybdenum compound.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing an alkanolamine diminished in discoloration determined by e.g. APHA color number and improved in color stability over a long storage period. SOLUTION: This method for producing an alkanolamine comprises the following steps: step (a): the original alkanolamine is treated with an effective amount of phosphorous acid, hypophosphorous acid or a compound thereof at an elevated temperature for 5 min or longer, and subsequently, step b: the resultant alkanolamine is distilled in the presence of an effective amount of one of the above phosphorus compounds.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To accomplish the hydroamination of an alcohol in high conversion and in high yield and selectivity and with long catalyst life by using a new catalyst. SOLUTION: The subject amine is obtained by reaction of a primary or secondary alcohol and a nitrogen compound selected from ammonia and primary and secondary amines with hydrogen at 80-250 deg.C and 0.1-40 MPa in the presence of a catalyst; wherein the catalyst is such one that, prior to reduction with hydrogen, the catalytically active material thereof comprises (A) 22-40 wt.% of an oxygen-contg. compound of zirconium (in terms of ZrO2), (B)1-30 wt.% of an oxygen-contg. compound of copper (in terms of CuO), (C) 15-50 wt.% of an oxygen-contg. compound of nickel (in terms of NiO), in the molar ratio Ni/Cu of >=1, (D) 15-50 wt.% of an oxygen-contg. compound of cobalt (in terms of CoO), (E) 0-10 wt.% of oxygen-contg. compound(s) of aluminum and/or manganese (in terms of Al2O3 or MnO2), and (F) an oxygen-contg. compound of molybdenum.

Abstract: Preparation of amines from alcohols, nitrogen compounds and hydrogen is effected over a catalyst containing oxygenated compounds of zirconium, copper, nickel and optionally aluminium and/or manganese. Preparation of amines involves reacting primary or secondary alcohols, nitrogen compounds selected from ammonia and primary or secondary amines, with hydrogen at 80-250 degrees C and 0.1-40 MPa over a catalyst at least containing zirconium, copper and nickel. Specifically, the catalytically active mass contains metal oxides of Zr (20-85 wt. %, as ZrO2), Cu (1-30 wt.%, as CuO), Ni (14-70 wt.%, as NiO) and optionally aluminium and/or magnesium (0-10 wt.%, as Al2O3 and/or MnO2). The molar ratio of Ni / Cu is ≥ 1, and the catalyst is free of cobalt or molybdenum oxides. An Independent claim is also included for a catalyst formed.
