Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of producing monoisopropylamine(MIPA), capable of overcoming disadvantages of conventional methods and therefore capable of economically improving the methods, when the MIPA is produced by aminating acetone with ammonia and simultaneously hydrogenating with hydrogen. SOLUTION: This method of producing the MIPA comprises reacting the acetone with the ammonia and the hydrogen in the presence of a catalyst at a high temperature under an increased pressure, wherein the catalyst has a main body for catalytic activity which contains aluminum dioxide (Al2O3), zirconium dioxide (ZrO2), titanium dioxide (TiO2) and/or silicon dioxide (SiO2) in an amount of 20-90 wt.%, an oxygen-containing copper compound in an amount of 1-70 wt.% (calculated as CuO), an oxygen-containing nickel compound in an amount of 1-70 wt.% (calculated as NiO) and an oxygen-containing cobalt compound in an amount of 1-70 wt.% (calculated as CoO), when measured at a time after the catalyst is produced but before the catalyst is subjected to hydrogenation treatment.

Abstract: Catalysts contain, on a porous metal oxide support, 0.1-6 wt% cobalt, nickel or a mixture, 0.001-25 wt% ruthenium, 0-10 wt% copper and 0-5 wt% promoter(s) of iron, rhodium, palladium, platinum, iridium, osmium, silver, gold, chromium, molybdenum, tungsten, rhenium zinc, cadmium, lead, manganese, tin, lithium, sodium, potassium, rubidium, caesium, phosphorus, arsenic, antimony, bismuth, tellurium or thallium. Also claimed are: (i) a process for the production of catalysts, by impregnating the support with the metals and promoters or their compounds, drying and calcining, and reducing the calcined catalyst in a stream of hydrogen, and (ii) a process for the production of amination products by reacting alkylene oxides, alcohol, aldehyde or ketones with ammonia or prim. or sec. amines in presence of free hydrogen and catalyst.
