Abstract: Photopolymerizable compositions based on an elastomeric styrene-diene block polymer, one or more photopolymerizable olefinically unsaturated monomers and one or more photopolymerization initiators exhibit improved properties if they contain, as an essential constituent, an elastomeric block copolymer of the general structure A-B-C, where A is a thermoplastic, non-elastomeric polymer block based on styrene compounds and having a second order transition point above +25 DEG C., B is an elastomeric polymer block based on butadiene and/or isoprene and having a second order transition point below -20 DEG C. and C is a polymer block, different from B, having a second order transition point of from -30 DEG C. to +15 DEG C., C being either a homopolymer or copolymer block based on butadiene or isoprene or a random copolymer block based on conjugated dienes and styrene compounds. The photopolymerizable compositions may be used, inter alia, for the production of photo-curable adhesives, resilient and flexible sheet material and, in particular, flexographic relief printing plates.

Abstract: The compsns. contain (a) >=1 cpd. of low mol. wt. and contg. >=1 unsatd. photopolymerisable double bond; (b) >=1 compatible organic polymeric binder; (c) a photo-initiator; and (d) 0.001-0.1 wt. % of an etherified thioanthraquinone cpd. of formula (I):- in which R is 1-12C alkyl, 1-8C alkyl substd. by an opt. etherified and/or esterified OH gp. and/or an alkoxycarbonyl gp., or an opt. substd. phenyl gp. Pref. cpds. (I) are propyl-, n-butyl-, and isobutylthioanthraquinones, and esp. 2-butylthio-2-anthraquinone (II). Presence of the (I) in known photopolymerisable compsns. reduces undesired polymerisation of the compsn. in the shadow of fine opaque image elements during exposure in contact with a negative, thus giving improved image clarity. The presence of the (I) does not reduce the light sensitivity or exposure latitude of the material.

Abstract: The compsn. is based on a mixt. of low-mol. (poly)olefinic cpd(s). (I) and compatible organic polymeric binder(s) (II) contg. a photoinitiator. The novelty is that the compsn. contains 0.001-0.1 wt. % homogeneously dispersed 1-12C-alkyl-thio-anthraquinone (III) and pref. also 0.01-1 wt. % of an organic tert. amine (IV) or an aromatic alpha-ketocarboxylic acid (V) or its 1-18 C-alkyl ester or 0.02-2 wt. % of an organic N-nitrosohydroxylamine salt (VI). The relief structure is improved by reducing undesired polymerisable in the complete shadow of fine opaque image elements, with simultaneous favourable exposure latitude and without impairing the speed.
