A process for the aminolytic degradation of cross-linked polymer (P), derived from 4-20C diisocyanates and optionally 1-20C aliphatic alcohols, having urea, isocyanaurate and optionally urethane and/or isocyanate structural units comprises reaction of polymer (P) with aliphatic 8-30C mono- or diamines (A) at 150-450 deg C whereby the reaction is carried out until the polymer is converted to reaction products having upto 20% of the initial isocyanurate, allophanate or urethane structural units.
