    Abstract: The invention concerns the preparation of 3-(3,4,5,6-tetrahydrophthalimido)cinnamic acid esters of formula (I) (R1 = H, halogen; R2, R3 = halogen; R4 = C-organic rest; R5 = H, CH¿3?) by the reduction of 3-nitrocinnamic acid esters of formula (II) with hydrogen in the presence of a catalyst and the condensation of the 3-aminocinnamic acid esters obtained of formula (III) with a 3,4,5,6-tetrahydrophthalic acid anhydride of formula (IV). 3-(3,4,5,6-tetrahydrophthalimido)cinnamic acid esters of formula (I) are useful active agents in the plant-protection field.
