Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent spontaneous decomposition of acetylene gas or gas mixture containing the same in a chemical reactor, by treating an area of the reactor where the decomposition begins, with an inert oil having a medium viscosity. SOLUTION: The spontaneous decomposition is prevented by formulating/ introducing an inert oil (e.g. liquid paraffin, synthetic oil such as polyolefin oil) having a viscosity of 1-100 mm /sec at 100 deg.C, continuously or in a batch method, forming oil mist, together with acetylene gas having a partial pressure of 2 bar or higher and a temperature of 50 deg.C or higher, at least to the part of the reactor where the decomposition begins, especially where chemically igniting matter deposits, at a rate of 1-100 ml kg -acetylene hr .

Abstract: Prepn. of N-vinyl-lactams (I) of formula (A) (where R = CH=CH2; n=1-3) comprises reacting lactams (II) of formula (A) (where R = H; n = 1-3) with (a) 10-90 wt.% aq. alkali hydroxide soln. by distn. at 50-250 degrees C and 1-100 mbar with a residence time of 0.1-5 hrs. and then (b) C2H2 at 60-250 degrees C and 1-100 bar. Pref. reaction (a) is carried out in a column with at least 2 theoretical plates. (II) and aq. alkali hydroxide soln. are fed into the upper third of the column. A 30-60, esp. 45-55 wt.% soln., more esp. KOH soln., is used. Reaction is carried out at 70-180 degrees C and 1-30 mbar with a residence time of 0.5-2 hrs.

Abstract: The prepn. of monovinyl ethers of formula (I), comprises reacting a diol of formula (II) with C2H2 in the presence of a base. The reaction is carried out at 150-250 degrees C and an C2H2 partial pressure of 5-25 bar until the diol conversion is 40-80%, then the reaction is stopped and (I) is isolated. In (I) and (II): A = a chemical bond, -CH2- or -CH2CH2-; R , R = H, (cyclo)alkyl or aryl; or R R = a 3-5C alkylene bridge.
