Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To impart vertical alignment and domain formation to a homeotropic pixel element of a liquid crystal display technique by using a technique to form a self-organizing monomolecular film. SOLUTION: A substituted silane compound such as octadecyl silane is applied to a transparent conductive layer surface of such as indium tin oxide as a hydrolysable alcoholic solution and a molecular layer with thickness of essentially one molecule (the monomolecular film) is formed via a baking temperature cycle. One terminal group of the monomolecular film is bonded to the indium tin oxide surface and the other terminal group functions so as to influence molecular alignment and domain formation of a liquid crystal material.

Abstract: In the invention, the technology of the formation of self assembled monolayers is employed in imparting vertical alignment and domain favoring features in homeotropic pixel elements in the technology of liquid crystal type displays. Substituted silane compounds, such as octadecylsilane when applied on a transparent conductive layer surface such as that of indium tin oxide in a hydrolyzable alcohol solution, and then followed by a baking temperature cycle, form essentially single thickness molecule layers (monolayers) of molecules that are bonded at one end to the indium tin oxide surface and have the other end of the molecule operable to influence molecular orientation and domain preference of a liquid crystal.

Abstract: An electrical interconnect forming method. The electrical interconnect includes a first substrate comprising a first electrically conductive pad, a second substrate comprising a second electrically conductive pad, and an interconnect structure electrically and mechanically connecting the first electrically conductive pad to the second electrically conductive pad. The interconnect structure comprises a non-solder metallic core structure, a first solder structure, and a second solder structure. The first solder structure electrically and mechanically connects a first portion of the non-solder metallic core structure to the first electrically conductive pad. The second solder structure electrically and mechanically connects a second portion of the non-solder metallic core structure to the second electrically conductive pad.
