Abstract: An integrated data storage disk and disk drive assembly includes a rotatably supported magnetic disk for storing data. A rotor is fixedly joined to the disk for rotating the disk, and includes a plurality of rotor poles. A stator includes a plurality of stator poles positioned around the rotor for sequentially cooperating with respective ones of the rotor poles for rotating the rotor to rotate the disk. The disk and drive may be fabricated using lithographic and electroplating techniques, and a plurality of coaxial disks may be driven by a single disk drive in exemplary embodiments.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an integrated assembly of a data disk and a disk drive. SOLUTION: The assembly includes the magnetic disk for data memory, which is supported rotatable. A rotor including a plurality of rotor poles is fitted and fixed to the disk for rotating the disk. A stator disposed with a plurality of stator poles around the rotor is used for rotating the disk by rotating the rotor in turn connecting to each rotor pole. The disk and the drive can be formed by lithography or electroplate coating, and in a typical practiced case a plurality of coaxial disks can be driven by one disk drive.

Abstract: A method of forming a ferromagnetic liner on conductive lines of magnetic memory devices and a structure thereof. The ferromagnetic liner increases the flux concentration of current run through the conductive lines, reducing the amount of write current needed to switch magnetic memory cells. The conductive lines are formed in a plate-up method, and the ferromagnetic liner is selectively formed on the plated conductive lines. The ferromagnetic liner may also be formed over conductive lines and a top portion of vias in a peripheral region of the workpiece.

Abstract: The present invention describes a high speed, high precision electrochemical micromachining tool, chemical solution and method for the one sided through-mask micropatterning of conducting foils and films supported by insulating material. The tool of the present invention can include either a movable plate means allowing for the movement of the workpiece (20) to and from above the cathode assembly (18), or a movable cathode assembly means allowing for the movement of said cathode assembly to and fro beneath the workpiece. Said cathode assembly also consists of a nozzle assembly from which the electrolytic solution emerges as electrolytic shower and impinges upon the workpiece. Methods to resolve the problems related to the loss of electrical contact during the electrochemical micromachining process are also described.

Abstract: A thin film head includes a permeable substrate providing a first shield, which may include a more highly permeable layer on its upper surface for shielding, a layer of permeable material thereon providing a second shield and a first write head leg referred to as the shielding-leg layer and a magnetic gap filled with dielectric material between the substrate and the shielding-leg layer. A magnetoresistive stripe including permeable material extends within the dielectric in said gap near the tip end of the head spaced from the substrate and the shielding-leg layer. An inductive single turn or multiturn writing winding is formed upon a layer of dielectric on the other side of the shielding-leg layer. A second leg layer covers the half of the spiral winding towards the tip end of the head and extends through an opening into contact with the shielding-leg layer.

Abstract: An integrated inductive write, magnetoresistive (MR) read thin film magnetic head comprising an open magnetic yoke having outside legs each having a winding thereon and a central leg having an opening across which the MR element is coupled. The outer legs are overlapped at one end to form confronting pole pieces having a transducing gap between the pole pieces, and the central leg is positioned between the pole pieces at one end and joined with the outer legs at the other end to form a symmetrical magnetic yoke structure. The windings are wound in a direction so that the flux produced by equally energizing the windings is equal and opposite in each of the outside legs, is additive at the transducing gap between the pole pieces, and produces no net flux through the central leg.

Abstract: An intense laser beam is focused at a jet nozzle through which an electrolyte is directed towards a substrate, so that the laser beam travels with the jet to the substrate. The laser beam heats the site of the substrate on which it falls, and thereby enhances the etching or plating process being carried out in the substrate.
