Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain a catalyst having high activity and to produce an alcohol with high yield and high quality by carrying out the freeze drying in the process producing for catalyst precursor by using copper oxide or metallic oxide consisting essentially of copper oxide and a carrier. CONSTITUTION:A water soluble copper salt or mixture of a water soluble copper salt and a water soluble zinc salt reacts with an alkaline agent in an aqueous media in the presence of a carrier. When precipitate is washed, dried and burnt and the catalyst precursor is produced, freeze drying is carried out at about -50-0 deg.C and about 0.01-100Torr. Thus, obtained precipitate is kept as particulate state without solidifying to lumpy during washing or drying. Therefore, the highly active catalyst can be obtained, and when the alcohol is produced by hydrogenation of an organic carboxylic ester, high yield and high quality can be attained.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To keep high decomposition ratio of fats and oils, to maintain enzyme activity and to continue a reaction stably for a long period, by hydrolyzing fats and oils with lipase while keeping always glycerin concentration in a water phase existing in a reaction system in a specific range. CONSTITUTION:In hydrolyzing fats and oils with lipase, glycerin concentration in a water phase existing in a reaction system is kept always at 10-40wt% to carry out the reaction. After the hydrolysis is over, the reaction mixture is separated into an oil layer, an emulsion layer and a water layer, the emulsion layer is taken out, used again for the following fats and oils hydrolysis, the enzyme dissolved in the water phase is concentrated and recovered from the water layer by the use of an ultrafilter, and preferably it is reused for the ensuring fats and oils hydrolysis.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To prevent the inactivation of enzyme while keeping the degree of hydrolysis at a high level, and at the same time, to carry out the separation of the reaction product into glycerol and fatty acid, by pouring an oily phase containing lipase as a suspensoid in a cell, and an aqueous phase in the other cell separated from the oily phase cell with a separation membrane, and contacting the enzyme and oil with water through the membrane. CONSTITUTION:For example, the cellulose acetate membranes 1 and the gaskets 4 are arranged alternately in a reactor to form plural cells 11 partitioned from each other with the membranes 1. Water is supplied and circulated from the water-tank 5 through the pump 7 and the lines 9, 9' to the alternate cells 11. At the same time, the cells 11 adjacent to the cells supplied with water are supplied with lipase-suspended oil from the oil tank 6 with the pump 8 through the line 10, 10'. The flow rate of the oil phase and water phase is adjusted so as to apply about 0.2kg/cm pressure to the liquid phase. The oil in the oil phase is decomposed with lipase into glycerol and fatty acid, and the glycerol is transferred into the aqueous phase leaving the fatty acid in the oil phase.

Abstract: PURPOSE:The reaction of a primary or secondary amine with formaldehyde is carried out under the pressure of hydrogen, then a primary or secondary amine is added to the reaction mixture and distillation is effected to obtain a tertiary amine which is readily purified with reduced discoloration and increased storage stability. CONSTITUTION:A primary or secondary amine and a hydrogenation catalyst are charged in a reactor, the mixture is stirred, as hydrogen is introduced into the reactor. When the hydrogen pressure and the temperature reach 3-20kg/cm G and 100-150 deg.C, respectively, formaldehyde, preferably 35-50% formalin, is continuously fed in a certain time to effect the reactions. After the completion of the reactions, the catalyst is filtered off, the filtrate is combined with a primary or secondary amine and they are heat treated and subjected to distilla tion to collect the tertiary amine. The amine which is added to the tiltrate is selected so that it has an appropriate difference in boiling point from the tertiary amine. EFFECT:The acid components such as formic acid which are formed in the reactions are varied by addition of amines to give the objective substance of lowered discoloration with the passage of time.

Abstract: PURPOSE: To carry out the hydrolysis of an oil or fat in high rate of hydrolysis, without causing the deactivation of enzyme, by placing an oil or fat suspending a lipase to one side of a separation membrane, placing water to the other side, and contacting the oil with water through the membrane, wherein the water in the water-phase is made to react in the form of steam.
CONSTITUTION: An oil or fat suspending a lipase is placed to one side of a separation membrane, a water-phase is placed to the other side of the membrane, and the enzyme, the oil and the water are made to contact with each other through the membrane to effect the hydrolysis of the oil. In the above process, the water in the water-phase is made to react in the form of steam preferably by reducing the pressure. The pressure is preferably near or below the vapor pressure of water at the enzymatic reaction temperature.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To produce a fatty acid ester simply in a high yield without pretreating free fatty acids contained in an oil or fat by reacting a triglyceride with an alcohol in the presence of a solid acid catalyst. CONSTITUTION:A fatty acid ester is produced by reacting a triglyceride (e.g. soy bean oil or beef tallow) with an alcohol (e. g. methanol) in the presence of a solid acid catalyst. Examples of the catalyst are a single or composite metal oxide (e.g. SiO2 Al2O3), a metal sulfate (e.g. aluminum sulfate), a synthetic zeolite, and an ion-exchange resin (e.g. a cation-exchange resin). The reaction, which may be of a batch-type or continuous, is pref. conducted by filling a fixed bed reactor with the catalyst and passing the triglyceride and the alcohol through the reactor at a liq. space velocity based on the triglyceride of 0.02-2/hr.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To provide a method for producing a fatty alcohol by continuously carrying out catalytic reduction of a fatty acid ester or a fatty acid triglyceride or a fatty acid in the presence of a hydrogenation catalyst. The aforementioned method is carried out by using a reactor that is a fixed bed reaction column in which a liquid phase and a vapor phase together are made to continuously flow in a downward cocurrent stream on the hydrogenation catalyst fixed in the interior of the reaction column and one or several means for cooling the reaction raw material are provided in the middle of the height direction in the above- mentioned reaction column. Thereby, the high-purity fatty alcohol can be produced in extremely high quality with hardly any hydrocarbons and aldehydes formed as by-products. Subsequent steps for removing the by-products can be omitted by the method of this invention.
