Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a refrigerator which previously informs a user of freshness of a vegetable before damage thereto becomes further severe when the freshness of the vegetable is deteriorated. SOLUTION: There is provided an atmosphere sensor 24 in a vegetable chamber 12 for sensing a change in concentration of a composite gas component including gas component produced from an article contained in the change and gas components flowing from the outside of the chamber. On the basis of an electric output of the atmosphere sensor 24 a storage state of the contained vegetable can be checked without opening a door 14 with the aid of display means 30 and /or sound informing means 31 for displaying external appearances of vegetables and fruits, and hence it can be stored in the interior of the vegetable chamber 12b without corrosion thereof.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a technique for easy and safe determination on the freshness of each egg in a general home, using a simple device and to keep eggs fresh by not only controlling breeding of bacteria at a low temperature but also keeping the surface of eggshell sanitary. SOLUTION: An egg case 5 is provided with an ultraviolet lamp 20 to excite porphyrin which adheres to the eggshell for make the porphyrin fluoresce, an observation means 21 for permitting safe observation of the fluorescence and a controller for controlling the observation means and turning-on and turning-off of the lamp 20, so that the freshness of each egg can be determined safely and easily. At the same time, an interior 17 of the case can be kept sanitary, as compared with the conventional cases owing to sterilizing effect of the ultraviolet rays.
