Abstract: A light source element is employed back-lighting of liquid crystal displays and that comprises an obliquely placed light exit face and/or light entry face. At its surfaces, the light waveguide is surrounded by reflectors into which suitable aperture regions are potentially formed. A plurality of light sources and/or a more direct view is provided and, thus, a corresponding increase of the luminance results. A method is also provided for the manufacture of a light source element with an integrated reflector.

Abstract: The drive circuit is suitable for an LED array, comprising a number of clusters of LEDs, with one cluster comprising a number of LEDs which are arranged in series and are connected to a supply voltage (UBatt). A semiconductor switch (transistor T) is arranged in series between the LED and the supply voltage and allows the LED current to be supplied in a pulsed manner. A measurement resistor (Rshunt) for measuring the LED current is arranged in series between the LED and ground, with a control loop controlling the semiconductor switch such that a constant mean value of the LED current is achieved.

Abstract: The semiconductor element includes a light transmitting and/or receiving semiconductor chip (1), a lead frame (2), and a sheathing (3). The chip is supported by the chip carrier surface of a lead frame. The chip carrier surface is recessed (4) in the region supporting the semiconductor chip, with the inside surfaces of the recess coated so that they act as a reflector for the transmitted and/or received light. Pref. part of the chip carrier surface is enclosed by the sheathing, with the terminals (11,12) for the semiconductor component extending from the sheathing on opposite sides. A connection part (10) to the terminals is provided at a distance from the chip carrier. The sheathing may be formed entirely from a transparent material, or from an opaque material with a window of a transparent material aligned with the part of the chip carrier surface supporting the semiconductor chip.

Abstract: The invention relates to a control circuit for an LED array, comprising several LED lines, whereby a line consists of several LEDs mounted in series and connected to a supply current (UBatt). A semiconductor switch (Transisto r T) is connected in series between the LED and the supply current and makes i t possible to supply the LED current in a clocked manner. A measuring shunt (RShunt) for measuring the LED current is connected in series between the LE D and the ground, whereby a feedback control circuit regulates the semiconduct or switch in such a way that a constant mean value of the LED current is obtain ed.
