Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device and method which increases the operating range, in order to improve the performance of an electro-optical system and/or changes a beam cross section. SOLUTION: Voltage is impressed to a variable lens, in order to change a shape of liquid of the variable lens so that the operating range in an electro-optical reading apparatus or imaging device for reading inscription can be enlarged. Abstract:
An imaging system comprises a module, focusing lens and an aperture sized to allow a target, such as a bar code, to be imaged without being illuminated by light sources on the module. The system further comprises an array of rows of pixels, the pixels in each row being spaced apart and the pixels in successive rows being offset from one another by one-half of a pixel. The array 510 may also lie in an imaging plane that lies at an angle other than a right angle with respect to an optical axis of the focusing lens. There may also be a dark room 250 in the module for enclosing the image sensor.
Abstract:
An aperture stop (50) focuses light from indicia onto a solid-state imager (40) of an imaging reader The aperture stop has an open aperture (52) with a scan dimension sized to resolve symbol elements, and with a height dimension to allow sufficient light to be captured A cylindrical lens can be used to collect additional light The aperture stop provides a large depth of focus and enables symbols to be read over a wide field of view The need to use an expensive multiple lens assembly with the imager is eliminated.
