    Abstract: An apparatus for developing a latent image recorded on a surface, including a housing defining a chamber storing a supply of developer material including toner and carrier beads. A toner donor member is spaced from the surface and is adapted to transport toner to a region opposed from the surface. A magnetic roller conveys the toner material in the chamber of the housing onto the donor member. An electrode member is spaced near the surface of a donor roll, the electrode member electrically biased by a power supply to detach toner from the donor member as to form a toner cloud for developing the latent image. A power supply controller, in communication with the power supply, is adapted to adjust the electrode member electrical biasing to avoid air breakdown induced contamination of the electrode member with toner.

    Abstract: A maintenance assembly (129) for cleaning a plurality of printheads (125,126) in a printing machine comprises two or more cleaning members (150), each of the cleaning members (150) sized and positioned to clean at least one but less than all of the plurality of printheads (125,126) when in a cleaning position. A drive mechanism (174) associated with each of the two or more cleaning members (150) is configured to selectively move an associated cleaning member to and from the cleaning position and a retracted position. The cleaning members (150) are supported on a frame with a mechanism (130) provided for translating the frame into position juxtaposed with the plurality of printheads and a further mechanism to swipe the cleaning members across the printheads. The maintenance assembly (129) is operable to clean only selected printheads in a single operation.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent an orifice and a vacuum platen from being clogged with debris infiltrated into the periphery of a printing head.
    SOLUTION: Openings 60, 64 with different shapes are provided to an endless belt, which can carry a medium having its width narrower than the span size of from edge 54 to edge 58, to form an escort belt 50. The openings are formed by arranging a plurality of openings 60 in the longitudinal direction of the belt in the vicinity of the edge 54 and by dispersedly arranging a plurality of openings 64 between the edge 58 and the openings 60. The openings 60 are formed in a position where a part of the openings is covered by the edge of the medium sucked to the endless belt by evacuation. Thus, while sucking the medium to the belt 50 by the evacuation via the openings 64, a particulate material such as the debris or the like separated from the medium can be discharged by the evacuation via the openings 60.
