    Abstract: A photocopying optical system in which an object is scanned and imaged through an aperture on a photoreceptor surface. A photodetector is disposed adjacent to the aperture to receive light propagating from the object and from adjacent platen area exposed by the object. The photodetector senses the level of irradiance of the object and this signal is fed back to control the intensity of the light source. A platen cover is configured to reflect light at an angle from the normal to the platen so as to avoid reflecting directly at the photodetector.

    Abstract: In a xerographic cassette, an auger which is used to transport developer material is driven from outside the cassette and, to that end, the auger shaft 11 extends through a bearing assembly 13 in the cassette wall. To prevent leakage of developer material from the cassette through the bearing assembly, the latter includes at least one magnet 17 which serves to attract and retain material from within the housing to form a seal around the shaft. Two magnets 17, 18 with opposed faces of the same polarity may be provided; alternatively, the magnet may provide a plurality of axially spaced poles, alternate ones of which are of opposite polarity.

    Abstract: An image is developed on an imaging surface using a novel method and apparatus. A fabric developer applicator is loaded with a liquid developer the the applicator surface is doctored so that portions thereof that will contact the imaging surface are substantially free from liquid developer. The applicator and imaging surface are brought into arcuate moving contact which is maintained through a nip width providing sufficient time for the developer to be drawn from the applicator toward the imaging surface in response to an electric field.

    Abstract: A photoreceptor assembly and a xerographic cassette for a printing or copying machine, the cassette including a photoreceptor drum, a drum cleaner, a waste toner container, for storing waste toner; and a waste toner conveyor for conveying waste toner cleaned off said photoreceptor drum by the cleaner into the waste toner container characterized in that the waste toner container is positioned in the interior of the photoreceptor drum and is reversibly removable therefrom. The conveyor typically includes a flexible helical wire which acts as an auger. Once filled with waste toner, the waste toner container is removed from the drum and is replaced by a fresh container.
