Abstract:
Apparatus and method for controlling and leaving different thickness coatings on a continuous web. A jet finishing assembly includes a support means and at least two rotatably mounted jet finishing knives. The orifice opening of each knife is a different height corresponding to a different thickness coating to be left on the web. When the coating thickness requirement for the web changes, the finishing knives are rotated until a knife having the appropriate orifice opening for leaving the required coating thickness is adjacent the passing web.
Abstract:
An apparatus for applying a liquid, for example cooling water, to the surface of an axially moving elongated element, for example a hot rolled rod in a rolling mill. The apparatus includes a housing having an interior chamber through which extends a guide assembly. The guide assembly in turn defines a longitudinally extending passageway which is suitably adapted and dimensioned to accommodate movement therethrough of the elongated element. Liquid is admitted into the chamber through an inlet in the housing and is thereafter fed into the passageway through an orifice in the guide assembly. Vanes in the chamber prevent the liquid entering the orifice from swirling about the longitudinal axis of the passageway.
Abstract:
A surface of an article is coated by moving the article downstream through a linear curtain spray rinse applicator and thereafter through a linear curtain spray coating applicator. The rinse applicator and coating applicator are positioned relative to one another such that the rinsing spray and coating spray intersect at the surface of the article. The rinsing medium is applied as a spray having upstream frontal forces lying in a plane generally parallel to the surface of the article to provide the surface with a uniform thickness of rinsing medium film. The coating medium is applied to the surface of the article having downstream frontal forces lying in a plane generally parallel with the surface of the article to prevent the rinsing medium mixed with the coating medium from moving upstream into the coating spray. In this manner, the surface of the article is more uniformly coated.
Abstract:
A plant for the continuous surface treatment of work pieces comprises a plurality of treatment chambers arranged one behind the other and tightly connected to one another; each treatment chamber is movable transversely to the direction of transportation of the work pieces and at least part of the internal equipment provided in the treatment chambers is removable in longitudinal direction, i.e. parallel relative to the direction of transportation of the work pieces.
Abstract:
A steam jet nozzle is disposed between a pair of cylindrical rollers whose peripheries are in contact with a moving web to form in conjunction with a housing on the opposite side of the roller from the web, a steam chamber to insure moistening of the web. A fluid contacts the inner surface of the cylindrical roller to insure condensation of the steam on the roller periphery which in turn moistens the moving web.
