Abstract:
A Koch functionalized product which is the reaction product of at least one polymer having a number average molecular weight of at least 500 and at least ethylenic double bond per polymer chain, with carbon monoxide and a nucleophilic trapping agent. The invention includes functionalized polymer, derivatives thereof and methods of making the same.
Abstract:
Organosilicone materials that are "density-matched" to the hydrocarbon medium also act as defoamers in hydrocarbon fuel, specifically as described herein for diesel fuel. Specifically these new defoamers can be described as cross-linked organopolysiloxane-polyoxyalkylenes. They have the characteristics of being slightly soluble or insoluble in water and hydrocarbon fuels. By changing the solvent and the method of dispersion, different particle size distributions are obtained.
Abstract:
A composition of matter comprising:a) an aloyl urea represented by the formula ##STR1## where R.sub.1 is hydrogen or a (C.sub.1 -C.sub.50) linear or branched aliphatic, alkenyl, alkynyl, or aryl hydrocarbon; andb) an aroyl urea represented by the formula ##STR2## where R.sub.1 is a (C.sub.1 -C.sub.50) linear or branched aliphatic, alkenyl, alkynyl or aryl hydrocarbon; and Z is a heteroatom selected from the group consisting of Group IVa, Group Va and Group VIa materials of the periodic table.
Abstract:
A fuel composition for internal combustion engines, and more particularly, a fuel composition for internal combustion engines containing less than about 0.5 gram of lead per gallon of fuel is described. The fuel provides acceptable valve seat protection in engines designed to operate on leaded fuels. A further aspect of the invention is to reduce deposit formation within the cylinders.
Abstract:
Block polymers of organosiloxane and polyalkylene oxide are used in middle distillate petroleum fuel oils for separating out or otherwise reducing water haze in the oil. These block polymers are particularly useful in heating oils and diesel fuels, containing wax crystal modifier additives to improve the low temperature flow properties of the oil, particularly those modifiers which are copolymers of ethylene and an unsaturated ester and which have a tendency to stabilize and maintain the water haze in the oil.
Abstract:
Many liquids have properties improved, and fluid flow friction losses are reduced in flowing fluids by adding thereby a small, effective amount of composition comprising (i) a continuous phase of a liquid which is normally miscible with said fluid, and, dispersed therein, (ii) a stable discontinuous phase predominantly comprising fine particles of a high molecular weight polymer which is ultimately miscible with said fluid. In preferred features the compositions include a surface active agent. In other preferred features, friction is reduced in flowing hydrocarbons.
Abstract:
A fuel additive composition useful for incorporation in or admixture with fuels, particularly fuels containing vanadium and/or sodium as a contaminant such that upon combustion of the fuels containing or in the presence of said additive composition metal surfaces in contact with the resulting hot gaseous fuel combustion products are subject to less corrosion, contains one or more compounds providing the elements or elemental components magnesium, silicon, chromium and chlorine, these elements Mg, Si plus Cr, Cl being present in the additive composition in the weight ratio 1/>0.5/>1.0, respectively, the amount of Si to Cr being in the ratio 1:0.1-10.
Abstract:
A process for reducing oxidative degradation and cold flow of polymer crumb by immersing the crumb in a non-solvent such as water and/or dusting the crumb with a powder such as calcium carbonate and 2,6 di-t-butylparacresol, 4,4''-methylene-bis-(2,6 di-t-butylphenol) or other antioxidants. A process for reducing fluid flow friction loss in pipeline transmission of a hydrocarbon fluid by providing a continuous source of dissolved polymer therein by injecting polymer crumb or a slurry of polymer crumb and water into the hydrocarbon fluid, whereby the crumb gradually and continuously dissolves during transmission of the crumb through the pipeline.
Abstract:
A silicone is added in a minor proportion to a nonleaded gasoline to improve the distribution of the air-fuel mixture in the induction system of an aspirated multicylinder gasoline engine, thereby increasing operating efficiency.
Abstract:
GASOLINE CONTAINING AS AN IMPROVED ANTI-ICING ADDITIVE, THE COMBINATION OF A SUBSTITUTED TETRAHYDROPYRIMIDINE, AN AMIDE OR MIXTURES THEREOF AND AN ORGANIC SILICON COMPOUND. EXAMPLES OF THE TETRAHYDROPYRIMIDINE AND AMIDE ARE 1-OCTADECENYL-2-METHYL-1,4,5,6-TETRAHYDROPYRIMIDINE AND N-(I-AMINOETHYL)-N-HEPTADECENYLACETAMIDE. EXAMPLES OF SUITABLE ORGANIC SILICON COMPOUNDS ARE POLYHYDROCARBYLSILOZANES AND ALKYL SILICATES.
