Abstract:
It has been discovered that compositions that are blends or mixtures of certain lubricity additives and corrosion inhibitors and/or stability additives can serve as improved lubricity additive compositions in distillate fuels. The corrosion inhibitors may include, but are not necessarily limited to, saturated or unsaturated monomer, dimer, and trimer fatty acids, succinic acids, imidazolines, and mixtures thereof. Suitable stability additives include, but are not necessarily limited to, amines, amides, amine/aldehyde condensates, polymer dispersants, and mixtures thereof, where the stability additive is different from the lubricity additive. It has been surprisingly discovered that less lubricity additive may be used in the compositions when the stability additive or corrosion inhibitor is present to achieve the same lubricity result, as compared with compositions that do not contain a stability additive or corrosion inhibitor, yet the same total amount of additive composition.
Abstract:
A friction modifier for combustible fuels is provided that is prepared by combining a saturated carboxylic acid and an alkylated amine. Furthermore, there also is an additive concentrate for use in fuels, especially in gasoline for internal combustion engines, comprising (a) a friction modifier comprising of a branched saturated carboxylic acid salt of an alkylated amine, such as n-butylamine isostearate; (b) a detergent package, as well as the combustible fuels containing this additive concentrate. The particular selection of friction modifier (a) enables a stable additive concentrate to be formulated providing a significant benefit in friction loss when incorporated in gasoline used to fuel an internal combustion engine, and hence an improvement in fuel economy. Moreover, the use of the friction modifier (a) in combination with a detergent package permits increased fuel efficiency to be obtained without increasing the incidence of IVD deposits in combustion engines running on a fuel modified with the additive concentrate.

Particularly preferred aminofulvene derivatives are 2-methoxycarbonyl-6-(dimethylamino)fulvene; 2,3-dimethoxycarbonyl-6-(dimethylamino)fulvene; or mixtures thereof.
Abstract:
A fuel composition for internal combustion engines, and more particularly, a fuel composition for internal combustion engines containing less than about 0.5 gram of lead per liter of fuel is described. The fuel composition comprises a major amount of a liquid hydrocarbon fuel and a minor, property improving amount of(A) at least one hydrocarbon-soluble alkali or alkaline earth metal-containing composition, and(B) at least one hydrocarbon-soluble ashless dispersant. When a mixture of the metal-containing composition (A) and the ashless dispersant (B) are incorporated into gasolines containing less than about 0.5 gram of lead per liter of fuel, the treated fuel exhibits improved stability and water tolerance, and when the unleaded or low lead-containing fuels of the present invention are utilized in internal combustion engines, there is a significant reduction in valve seat recession. Methods of reducing valve seat recession in internal combustion engines utilizing lead free or low lead-containing fuels also are described.
Abstract:
Industrial fuels comprised of mixtures of asphaltenic heavy hydrocarbon fractions and light fractions are provided wherein the flocculation of asphaltenes is minimized by the addition of from 50 to 5000 ppm of an additive composed of a constituent A and/or a constituent B to render the composition homogeneous and stable. Constituent A results from the condensation of a linear N-alkyl polyamine with a cyclic anhydride and constituents B results from the reaction of an ethoxylated amine with a carboxylic acid of C.sub.8 to C.sub.30.
