Abstract: An apparatus and method for applying therapeutic spinal treatment to a patient has an anchor that connects to a first portion of the patients body above the cervical spine area. The anchor substantially fixes the location of that portion in the apparatus and a movable interface is provided in the apparatus with which the patient is adapted to interact with an operative part of his body. Movement of the movable interface together with the operative part of the patient's body imposes upon at least a second portion of the patients body that is below the first portion movement at the spine.

Abstract: A portable, foldable, and multifunctional mobility aid apparatus that assists a user in standing, sitting, and/or walking process. The apparatus has an integrated power source and is based on 4 wheels. Users can stand on it and drive it as an electric mobility device, or disable it and use it as a passive walker. The apparatus has a pair of supporting beams with adjustable width to be placed under the user armpits and support the user in standing up, sitting down, and/or moving around. The apparatus can be controlled by a control panel mounted on a pair of handles, and its functions can be controlled by the user with no need for help from another person. The apparatus can be minimized by a combination of multiple telescopic vertical minimization mechanisms and multiple folding mechanisms.

Abstract: A motor with associated load sensor is connected to a circulation pump of a swimming pool circulation system. The load sensor performs the function of a safety vacuum release system by detecting underload of the motor. Underload is now discovered to be reliably indicative of blockage on the intake side of a circulation pump. A switch controlled by the load sensor shuts off the motor in response to a suitable underload. Vacuum on the intake side of the circulation pump neutralizes, thereby freeing a person or object blocking the suction line.

Abstract: A leg assist device having an abnormality management procedure which appropriately adapts to an abnormal situation is provided. The leg assist device is provided with a leg attachment and a controller. The leg attachment comprises upper and a lower links connected with a rotary joint, and an actuator. The upper link is to be attached to the upper leg of the user. The lower link is to be attached to the lower leg of the user. The actuator swings the lower link relative to the upper link. The controller outputs the commands so that the swing angle of the lower link follows a target trajectory. Further, the controller executes a first abnormality management process in which the controller shuts off torque transmission from the actuator to the user when the controller detects an abnormality before outputting the commands to the actuator.

Abstract: A walking assist device which assists walking motion of one of the legs of the human with a sensor attached only to the one leg is provided. The walking assist device comprises an actuator, a sensor, and a controller. The sensor detects a knee joint angle and a hip joint angle of the one leg. The controller stores a first target trajectory for the knee joint angle and a second target trajectory for the hip joint angle. The controller controls the actuator so that the detected knee joint angle follows the first target trajectory. Further, the controller compares time series data of the detected hip joint angle with the second target trajectory while the one leg is in a stance phase. The controller calculates a time difference between the time series data and the second target trajectory and modifies the first target trajectory based on the time difference.
