Abstract:
The invention concerns a method and a device for decorating objects made of a material such as glass or metal, which consists in coating at least part of the surface of said objects with a substance adapted to form patterns during polymerization. The method is characterized in that it consists in: drying and dusting said objects by blowing; conditioning said objects so as to place them in specific physical conditions, for a certain time interval; applying, on the surface of each of said objects, said polymerizable substance; placing said objects in an environment suitable for their polymerization by drying while forming the desired patterns.

The curing system including a scanning mirror system having a mirrored surface positionable relative to an incoming radiation beam, wherein the mirrored surface is positionable to direct the incoming radiation beam to a selected one of the plurality of regions associated with the coating layer. The combinatorial coating library comprising a predetermined combination of at least one of the plurality of materials and at least one of the plurality of curing environments associated with each of the plurality of regions.
Abstract:
Waxes prepared from hydrogenated plant oils, such as palm and soybean, are used to render cellulosic materials resistant to water. Unlike cellulosic materials rendered water resistant with waxes obtained using petroleum-derived or synthetic waxes, the water resistant cellulosic materials prepared using this composition are recyclable using conventional paper recycling methods; the composition is dispersible in warm water solutions. Such water resistant materials are characterized by enhanced moisture barrier properties. The compositions have a low iodine value (between 2-5), and melting points between approximately 120-165 degrees F. (Mettler Drop Point). The wax comprises a triglyceride whose fatty acids are predominantly stearic acid (C18).. The composition is used as an additive in the manufacture of wax coated boxes and adhesive compounds used in boxboard packaging and manufacturing operations.

Abstract:
A medical diagnostic device has a non-absorbent substrate that has a hydrophilic target area on which a reagent is deposited by non-impact printing of microdroplets. During deposition, the device is moved relative to the stream of microdroplets to form a substantially uniform reagent layer on the substrate. The device is particularly well adapted for measuring blood coagulation times. In a preferred embodiment, coagulation times are determined by monitoring the optical transmission of light through the target area as an applied blood sample interacts with the reagent.
Abstract:
A method for producing a processed polymeric sheet to be adhesively secured to a cover to form a seal, the sheet having properties such that the seal does not have branching peel defects when it is separated. A polymeric sheet is formed from a source of polymeric material, and at least one side of the polymeric sheet is coated with silicone. The polymeric sheet is further processed while implementing a static neutralization method to substantially eliminate electrostatic discharge across the polymeric sheet during such further fabrication, producing a processed polymeric sheet. Preferably the polymeric material is selected from the group consisting of polyethylene, polystyrene, polyester, polyvinyl chloride, polypropylene, acrylics, acrylonitrile, polycarbonates, polyimide, and cellulosics. The static neutralization method, in different preferred embodiments, may be impregnating the polymeric source with a conductive material to dissipate a static charge on the polymeric sheet, coating the polymeric sheet with a hygroscopic material to attract moisture and dissipate a static charge on the polymeric sheet, at least partially ionizing an air mass and passing the polymeric sheet through the air mass to neutralize a static charge on the polymeric sheet, or passing the polymeric sheet near static neutralization bars to neutralize a static charge on the polymeric sheet.
Abstract:
A material consisting of a hydrophobic material having a metallic, ceramic or glass surface which has been modified by exposing the surface to a glow discharge plasma to activate the surface, followed by exposing the activated surface to one or more ethylenically unsaturated monomers and irradiating the surface with gamma or electron beam radiation to induce polymerization thereon of the monomer(s) so as to form a hydrophilic polymeric coating on the surface of an article.

Abstract:
This invention relates to the process of repainting a vehicle surface to give controlled depth of color and high image reflection, comprising preparing the surface for reception of a color coating, applying at least one coat of an acrylic enamel color coating onto said prepared surface, drying said color coating, applying an acrylic clear paint inter-mix finish coat over the color coat, and drying said finish coating, said color coating being a mixture of an automotive acrylic enamel, acrylic thinner, and acrylic clear paint designed for inter-mixing in the formulation of a color coating in amounts to give a DuPont cup viscosity reading of between about 16 to 21 seconds at 125.degree. F., and said color coating and finish coating being heated to a temperature of about 115.degree.-135.degree. F. just prior to application.
