Abstract:
The present disclosure is directed to methods of forming internally lubricated non-stick articles, and coatings, having a low water roll off angle. Also disclosed are materials and compositions for use in the disclosed methods, and the articles and coatings produced by the disclosed methods. The articles and coatings find use in a variety of applications in the biomedical area and in the prevention of biological fouling, such as that which occurs in marine environments.
Abstract:
A vehicle crash barrier gate constructed primarily of structural tube members and having an energy-absorbing connection between horizontal movable gate member and vertical post members. The gate member is provided with one or more deformable flanges adjacent to each end. Each post includes a vertically extending channel for receiving a respective gate member end and the flanges. An inwardly facing, vertically aligned opening in each channel allows the gate member to extend therethrough and span the space between the posts. The vertical extent of the openings spans the required vertical movement of the gate member. One or more reinforcing elements are disposed on the posts proximate to the elevation at which the gate member is positioned to prevent vehicle passage to strengthen the vertical post structure. A drive apparatus is provided to move the gate member vertically between an open position, typically at grade level, and a closed position, typically elevated above grade level.
Abstract:
This disclosure deals with novel formulations to create highly durable hydrophobic, superhydrophobic, oleophobic and/or superoleophobic surfaces that can be nearly transparent. The formulations of this invention can be applied by -dip, spray and painting processes.
Abstract:
Described herein are methods for creating spill-proof or spill-resistant surfaces through the use of hydrophobic or oleophobic (H—SH) edges, borders and/or boundaries that contain the water and other liquids within the inside edges, borders and/or boundaries. Also described herein are spill-proof/spill-resistant surfaces. Liquid (e.g., water and other aqueous solutions/suspensions) heights of 3-6 mm on a level planar surface can be sustained by such edges, borders and/or boundaries. The H—SH borders can be created on glass, metal, wood, plastic, and concrete surfaces.

Abstract:
The present disclosure describes compositions comprising an acrylic polymer binder and nano-particles less than about 100 nm that provide a hydrophobic or superhydrophobic coating that may also display oleophobicity. The coating composition may advantageously be prepared using VOC exempt compounds that are compatible with a variety of surface materials including many electronic components. In addition, the coating composition may also be rapidly dried rendering it useful for the rapid preparation of coated objects and surfaces in manufacturing/assembly line environments.
Abstract:
A vehicle crash barrier constructed primarily of structural tube members having an energy-absorbing connection between horizontal rail members and vertical post members. Horizontal rail members are provided with one or more deformable flanges adjacent to each end to be connected to a vertical post member. Vertical post members include a channel adjacent a top end for receiving the rail end and flange. The rails are connected to the vertical members by downwardly sliding the flanged end into the vertical channel until the rail rests upon a bottom stop. A reinforcing cap is positioned on the top end of the vertical member to prevent upward movement of the rail and to strengthen the vertical post structure. Shims may be installed between the flange and the channel walls to limit horizontal rail movement.
