Abstract: A reflective spatial light modulator (SLM) made of an electro-optic material in a one-sided Fabry-Perot resonator can provide phase and/or amplitude modulation with fine spatial resolution at speeds over a Gigahertz. The light is confined laterally within the electro-optic material/resonator layer stack with microlenses, index perturbations, or by patterning the layer stack into a two-dimensional (2D) array of vertically oriented micropillars. Alternatively, a photonic crystal guided mode resonator can vertically and laterally confine the resonant mode. In phase-only modulation mode, each SLM pixel can produce a π phase shift under a bias voltage below 10 V, while maintaining nearly constant reflection amplitude. This high-speed SLM can be used in a wide range of new applications, from fully tunable metasurfaces to optical computing accelerators, high-speed interconnects, true 2D phased array beam steering, beam forming, or quantum computing with cold atom arrays.

Abstract: This invention relates to retrievable measuring cell for optical measurements in gas, the cell being defined by a gas conducting pipe having an input end adapted to be connected to a gas flow input intruding gas into the cell and an output end adapted to be connected to a gas flow output. The pipe ends also being adapted to be coupled to optical components including an optical transmitter transmitting light into said cell and an optical receiver adapted to receive light having passed through said cell, the optical beam in said cell having a predetermined shape, the optical components including a light source, at least two minors and a light receiver being mounted in known positions on an external frame covered by the pipe ends. The cell has an elongated shape corresponding to the optical beam shape.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a gas measuring system for measuring the presence of a predetermined gas including a light source and a light receiver separated by a gas volume, the light source emitting light within a chosen range of wavelengths including characteristic absorption wavelengths of the gas to be measured and the light receiver being capable of detecting light in said wavelength range and the system including a spectrum analyzer and a storage means for storing the specific absorption wavelengths of the gas thus to recognize a gas absorbing at said specific wavelengths. The storage means also includes specific absorption wavelengths characterizing at least one other material having absorption wavelengths partially overlapping the absorption wavelengths of said gas, and thus detect the material in the volume. The system includes an analyzer unit being adapted to detect said other material from the gas measurements so as to distinguish between said material and gas in the volume, and to provide a measure of said gas.

Abstract: Input light comprising an optical signal associated with a spectrum of at least a portion of the input light is received into an interferometer. Data comprising an image is provided using a detector array comprising detection elements. Output light is received from the interferometer into a set of one or more optical elements, which provide an optical interference pattern associated with an intensity of at least a portion of the output light that is distributed over a set of detection elements. Detection of the optical signal is stabilized based at least in part on the data using a control system comprising: a light-control module that controls a first feedback loop that stabilizes the portion of the output light; and/or a temperature-control module that controls a second feedback loop that stabilizes a temperature sensed by at least one temperature sensor within a thermal environment associated with the interferometer.

Abstract: The optical device comprises a group of Fabry-Perot resonators, formed by a stack of a first and second partial reflection layer and an intermediate layer between the first and second partial reflection layer. The intermediate layer comprises a dielectric material and a group of arrays of posts embedded in the dielectric material at different positions along the intermediate layer. Each array in the group contains posts of a different non-circular shape and/or orientation in cross-section with a plane parallel to the reflection layers. As a result, Fabry-Perot resonators are formed in areas that contain different arrays, each having first and second resonance peaks at mutually different resonance frequencies for different polarization components. Light intensity sensors may be provided located below the different areas. From the intensities measured by the sensors, the intensities of different polarization components of the light can be computed over a range of wavelengths.
