Abstract: A method for determining a modulation and coding scheme is disclosed. The method is performed by a network device. The method includes: determining a quantity K of terminal devices that reuse a first time-frequency resource in a first time period to receive downlink data from the network device, where K≧2; obtaining a channel quality indicator (CQI), where the CQI is determined according to a signal to interference plus noise ratio (SINR) of a channel and the quantity K of the terminal devices, where the channel is a channel based on the first time-frequency resource, and the channel is used to transmit downlink data between a first terminal device and the network device in the first time period; and determining a Modulation and Coding scheme (MCS) of the first terminal device according to the CQI.

Abstract: A transmitting system, a receiving system, and a method for processing a broadcast signal are disclosed. The receiving system comprises a tuner, a channel equalizer, a turbo decoder, a demultiplexer, a first error correction decoder, a block deinterleaver, and a second error correction decoder. The tuner receives a broadcast signal including a data group. The data group comprises mobile service data, regularly spaced known data sequences, and signaling data. The turbo decoder performs turbo decoding for the signaling data included in the channel equalized broadcast signal in the channel equalizer. The block deinterleaver performs block deinterleaving for the turbo-decoded FIC data in a block unit of TNoG (the number of all data groups assigned to one subframe)×51 bytes.

Abstract: Transmission quality is improved in an environment in which direct waves dominate in a transmission method for transmitting a plurality of modulated signals from a plurality of antennas at the same time. All data symbols used in data transmission of a modulated signal are precoded by hopping between precoding matrices so that the precoding matrix used to precode each data symbol and the precoding matrices used to precode data symbols that are adjacent to the data symbol in the frequency domain and the time domain all differ. A modulated signal with such data symbols arranged therein is transmitted.

Abstract: A decoding device receives transmission data obtained by scrambling according to a polynomial xa+xb+1 where a and b are each an integer, a>b, and a≠2b. The decoding device includes a receiving unit, an error detecting unit, and a correcting unit. The receiving unit receives data obtained by scrambling transmission data in a block of 2N or less bits and an (N+3)-bit error correcting code. The (N+3)-bit error correcting code is calculated according to an (N+3)-degree cyclic code generator polynomial that is preset to generate 2N or more types of consecutive syndromes indicating bit error locations. The error detecting unit calculates, from (2(N+3)−1) types of syndromes and on the basis of a table, a bit error location in descrambled data obtained by descrambling the received data. The correcting unit corrects the descrambled data at the error location calculated by the error detecting unit.

Abstract: When a channel between a transmission apparatus and a reception apparatus is distorted by multipath fading or other reasons, linear interpolation between pilot subcarriers produces a large estimation error, resulting in an increase in an equalization error and a decrease in reception performance. The present invention allows feedback of a signal that undergoes error correction, reduction in the channel estimation error through repeated channel estimation, and improvement in the reception performance.

Abstract: Bits included in each code block of a transport block can be stored to an associated circular buffer and transmitted over a channel. Each circular buffer can vary in size in proportion to a size of the associated code block. Therefore, since in certain operating environments code blocks for a transport block can vary in size, circular buffers can vary in size as well. Accordingly, when not all data from a transport block and/or an array of circular buffers can be transmitted over the channel, each circular buffer from the array can transmit a portion of bits that is proportional to a size of the respective circular buffer (or the associated code block or encoded code block). Furthermore, the number of bits transmitted from each circular buffer can be constrained by an aggregate budget for all circular buffers and can be further constrained to be an integer multiple of a modulation order for the transport block.

Abstract: Transmitter apparatus to broadcast coded orthogonal frequency-division multiplexed (COFDM) radio-frequency carriers conveying low-density parity-check (LPDC) coding transmits the same coded DTV signals twice some time apart. The coded DTV signals of initial transmissions and of final transmissions are mapped to quadrature amplitude modulation (QAM) of the COFDM carriers according to first and second patterns, respectively. Bits that map to lattice points in the first mapping pattern more likely to experience error are mapped to lattice points in the second mapping pattern less likely to experience error. Bits that map to lattice points in the second mapping pattern more likely to experience error are mapped to lattice points in the first mapping pattern less likely to experience error. Receiver apparatus demaps QAM symbols in the earlier and later transmissions of twice-transmitted COFDM signals and maximal-ratio combines the de-mapping results at bit level, rather than symbol level.
