Abstract: Examples relate to a Forward Error Correction (FEC) encoder, an FEC decoder, Passive Optical Network (PON) systems, an Optical Line Terminal (OLT), an Optical Networking Unit (ONU), and to corresponding methods and computer programs. A forward-error-correction (FEC) encoder that is suitable for generating FEC data for use with hard-decision input at a receiver and for use with soft-decision input at the receiver is configured to generate the FEC data based on payload bits using a Low-Density Parity-Check (LDPC) code. The generated FEC data is generated using a single LDPC code that is suitable for use with soft-decision input and hard-decision input at the receiver or using one of two LDPC codes that are suitable for soft-decision input and hard-decision input, respectively.

Abstract: A radio communication system transmits data between terrestrial sites using one or more stochastically distributed orbiting satellites. The satellites and ground stations have the capability of sending and receiving data content in different radio technologies (signal formats) and over different satellite routes. Data content is assembled into packets and divided into segments and transmitted multiple times in different signal formats and/or over different routes, with each segment including error correction coding. A system node (satellite or ground station) that receives the multiple data packets applies error correction to each segment and re-assembles the data content from the separate segments in each transmission deemed to have the fewest errors.

Abstract: Transmission quality is improved in an environment in which direct waves dominate in a transmission method for transmitting a plurality of modulated signals from a plurality of antennas at the same time. All data symbols used in data transmission of a modulated signal are precoded by hopping between precoding matrices so that the precoding matrix used to precode each data symbol and the precoding matrices used to precode data symbols that are adjacent to the data symbol in the frequency domain and the time domain all differ. A modulated signal with such data symbols arranged therein is transmitted.

Abstract: A faulted message element in 5G or 6G can often be identified according to its modulation parameters, including a large deviation of the branch amplitudes from the predetermined amplitude levels of the modulation scheme, and/or the SNR of the branch amplitudes, and/or an amplitude variation of the raw signal or the branches during the message element, and/or an inconsistency between the modulation state as determined by the amplitude and phase of the raw waveform versus the amplitudes of the orthogonal branch signals, among other measures of modulation quality. An AI model may be necessary to correlate the various quality measures, and optionally to determine the correct demodulation of faulted message elements. Costly, time-consuming retransmissions may be avoided by determining the correct demodulation of each message element at the receiver, thereby improving throughput and reliability with fewer delays.

Abstract: A transmitter includes a data stream encoder layer having an output and a pattern generator having a bit pattern output. The transmitter further includes a first multiplexer having first and second inputs and a first multiplexer output. The first input is coupled to the output of the data stream encoder layer, and the second input is coupled to the bit pattern output of the pattern generator. While at least a portion of the data stream encoder layer is powered down, the pattern generator is configured to provide bit patterns on its bit pattern output, a control signal to the first multiplexer is configured to select the second input of the first multiplexer, and the first multiplexer is configured to output the bit patterns on the output of the first multiplexer.
