A catalyst useful for multi-phase reactors that includes an active component surrounded by a coating on a surface of the active component, wherein the coating provides a liquid film around the active component to increase the useful life of the active component as compared to an uncoated active component.
Abstract:
The present invention addresses at least four different aspects relating to catalyst structure, methods of making those catalysts and methods of using those catalysts for making alkenyl alkanoates. Separately or together in combination, the various aspects of the invention are directed at improving the production of alkenyl alkanoates and VA in particular, including reduction of by-products and improved production efficiency. A first aspect of the present invention pertains to a unique palladium/gold catalyst or pre-catalyst (optionally calcined) that includes rhodium or another metal. A second aspect pertains to a palladium/gold catalyst or pre-catalyst that is based on a layered support material where one layer of the support material is substantially free of catalytic components. A third aspect pertains to a palladium/gold catalyst or pre-catalyst on a zirconia containing support material. A fourth aspect pertains to a palladium/gold catalyst or pre-catalyst that is produced from substantially chloride free catalytic components.
Abstract:
Hydrogenated vegetable oil exhibiting superior thermal stability and containing reduced levels of saturates and trans fatty acids are produced using an activated hydrogenation catalyst and/or an improved hydrogenation process incorporating high shear. The use of a high shear mechanical device incorporated into the hydrogenation process as a reactor device is shown to be capable of enabling reactions that would normally not be feasible under a given set of reaction pressure and temperature conditions. For example, the hydrogenation process described herein enables a reduction of hydrogenation time, and operation at lower temperatures than current processes. The resulting hydrogenated vegetable oil is particularly useful in frying, confectionery baking, and other applications where a product with a low trans fat content or higher thermal stability is desirable. The hydrogenated oil produced may comprise less than 10 weight % of trans fatty acids with less than 5 weight % of linolenic acid (C18:3).
Abstract:
A process for preparing a cobalt based catalyst precursor includes in a first support impregnation/drying/calcination stage, impregnating a particulate porous catalyst support with a cobalt salt, partially drying the impregnated support, and calcining the partially dried impregnated support to obtain a calcined material. The calcined material is partially reduced. Thereafter, in a second support impregnation/drying/calcination stage, the partially reduced material is impregnated with a cobalt salt, partially dried and calcined, to obtain the cobalt based catalyst precursor.
Abstract:
The invention relates to a process for the preparation of an epoxidation catalyst which process involves (a) drying a silica gel carrier having a weight average particle size of from 0.1 mm to 2 mm at a temperature of from more than 200° C. to 300° C., and (b) contacting the carrier obtained in step (a) with a gas stream containing titanium halide to obtain an impregnated carrier, and the use of such catalyst in the preparation of alkylene oxide.
Abstract:
An exhaust gas purifying catalyst for purifying exhaust gas discharged from an internal combustion engine of an automotive vehicle. The exhaust gas purifying catalyst comprises a substrate on which a catalytic coat layer containing a catalyst component is formed. The catalytic coat layer is formed by coating a slurry containing the catalyst component on a surface of the substrate. A crack-preventing coat layer is formed on an upper-most surface of the catalytic coat layer. The crack-preventing coat layer has a thickness of not larger than 50 μm.
Abstract:
Polymer-encapsulated ion-exchange resins are disclosed. The resins are useful in adsorption, catalysis, and other applications. Catalysts comprising a polymer-encapsulated combination of an ion-exchange resin and a transition metal are also disclosed. The catalysts are useful in hydrogenation, oxidation, hydroformylation, polymerization, and other valuable processes. Certain of the polymer-encapsulated catalysts enhance the productivity in the process for producing hydrogen peroxide from hydrogen and oxygen.
Abstract:
