Abstract:
A method of analyzing a substrate contacting a fluid present in an industrial system is provided. The method comprises creating a series of digital images of the substrate while contacting the fluid present in the industrial system. A region of interest in the series of digital images of the substrate is defined. A corrosion feature in the region of interest in the series of digital images of the substrate is identified. The corrosion feature in the region of interest in the series of digital images of the substrate is analyzed to determine a corrosion trend of the industrial system. In certain embodiments of the method, the fluid is industrial water, and the industrial system is an industrial water system.
Abstract:
Described herein is the use of a visible near infrared (VNIR) hyperspectral imaging system as a non-invasive diagnostic tool for early detection of Alzheimer's disease (AD). Also described herein is the use of a VNIR hyperspectral imaging system in high throughput screening of potential therapeutics against AD.
Abstract:
A method for monitoring the shape of teeth including: producing a three-dimensional digital model of at least one portion of an arch of the patient or “initial reference model”; acquiring at least one two-dimensional image of the arches, referred to as “updated image”, under actual acquisition conditions; analysing each updated image and producing an updated map relating to a piece of discriminating information; optionally determining rough virtual acquisition conditions that approximate the actual acquisition conditions; searching each updated image for a final reference model corresponding to the shape of the teeth, and optionally to the positioning of the teeth, during the acquisition of the updated image; and comparing the shapes of the initial reference model and of the reference model obtained at the end of the preceding steps, referred to as “final reference model”, in order to determine the deformation and/or the movement of teeth between steps a) and b).
Abstract:
Apparatus and methods are described, for detecting the surface topography of a portion of a curved surface of an object. A beam of light is directed toward the surface from a broad angle of incidence with respect to an optical axis of a camera. Light reflected from the surface is received by the camera, via a narrow-angle aperture. One or more darkened regions in the received light are detected, and the surface topography of portion of the surface is detected at least partially in response to the detected darkened regions. Other applications are also described.
Abstract:
A color measurement system includes a display that presents to a user an augmented reality space that results from combining a display image into a real space, and an image generating unit that generates the display image that is obtained when the user views through the display a medium having thereon a color measurement target image on which color measurement is to be performed. The display image includes information indicating a location of the color measurement target image.
Abstract:
In some aspects, a device for apportioning granular samples includes a sample feeder defining a conduit, the conduit including a first opening to receive the granular samples and a second opening. The device includes a shuttle operably coupled to the sample feeder to receive the granular samples from the conduit via the second opening. The shuttle is configured to apportion the granular samples to incrementally enter a sample chamber to be analyzed. The device includes an outlet conduit fluidly coupled to the sample chamber and configured to permit the sample chamber to be evacuated.
Abstract:
A waste plastic container recycling system and a method thereof are provided for determining whether the spectrum of a waste container to be recycled belongs to any one of spectrums of plastic materials and for classifying waste containers of different plastic materials since the plastic materials have the different spectral characteristics. Accordingly, the waste plastic container recycling system and the method thereof can accurately recognize the waste containers of different plastic materials regardless of the appearance, or damage, deformation or concealment of the label on the waste containers.
Abstract:
A method of operating a hyperspectral imaging device includes receiving a light beam at a liquid crystal retarding device, and driving the liquid crystal retarding device with a pre-computed voltage waveform, wherein the voltage waveform is selected to reach a target optical retardance over time for the liquid crystal retarding device.
