Abstract: An internal combustion engine optimizing small-size arrangement of the valve drive mechanism, considering that the exhaust valve diameter is smaller than the intake valve diameter.Intake and exhaust valves are in a radial arrangement, intake and exhaust cam surfaces are inclined relative to intake and exhaust cam axes, intake and exhaust rocker arm support members are inclined correspondingly in the same way and disposed between an intake camshaft and an exhaust camshaft. Pivotal support base portions of intake rocker arms and pivotal support base portions of exhaust rocker arms are disposed such that the distances thereof from a joining surface joining a cylinder head and a cylinder body are different.

Abstract: A valve operating system for a multicylinder engine opens and closes a pair of valves provided on each of cylinders by means of a pair of rocker arms operated by a cam provided on a camshaft supported on a cam holder. When viewed in a direction of a cylinder axis, the pair of rocker aims of at least one of the cylinders are inclined in opposite directions to each other with respect to a direction orthogonal to a camshaft axis. Therefore, thrust loads acting on the camshaft from the pair of rocker al is are counteracted individually for each of the cylinders, thereby enabling the thrust load to be reduced and axial movement of the camshaft to be prevented.

Abstract: An eccentric hydraulic lash adjuster, a combustion engine comprising the eccentric hydraulic lash adjuster, and a method of assembling the combustion engine, the combustion engine including a rocker lever having a nose at a distal end thereof, and a bridge bar extending between two valves, the rocker lever configured to apply pressure on the bridge bar to actuate the two valves, and an eccentric hydraulic lash adjuster positioned in the nose of the rocker lever; and a fuel injector adjacent to the nose of the rocker lever and the bridge bar, wherein the eccentric hydraulic lash adjuster includes a housing having a pivot point and a longitudinal axis offset from the pivot point and is configured to pivot about the pivot point when the rocker lever pivots about the rocket lever shaft, wherein the offset is dimensioned to prevent interference between the nose and the fuel injector.

Abstract: A system for an internal combustion engine can include a separation device and an engine component including first and second valves. The separation device can separate intake air into a volume of nitrogen-rich air and a volume of oxygen-rich air. A first valve element can be movable relative to a first valve body and can have an annular shape disposed about a central axis of the combustion chamber. The first valve body can be fluidly coupled to the separation device and direct the oxygen-rich air into a central area of the combustion chamber. A second valve element can be movable relative to a second valve body and can have an annular shape disposed about the central axis, radially outward of the first valve. The second valve body can be fluidly coupled to the separation device and can direct the nitrogen-rich air to a peripheral area of the combustion chamber.
