Abstract:
A circuit board assembly is disclosed comprising a pair of three-dimensional substrates having integral, metallized connectors. The connector of the first substrate protrudes therefrom, while the connector of the second substrate is recessed therein. The geometries of the protruding connector and the recessed connector are different such that they deform when assembled to provide an electrical connection and a detachable physical connection. In one embodiment, the recessed connector has a parabolic cross-section and the protruding connector has a circular cross-section. A flexible molded edge connector for the circuit board assembly is also disclosed.
Abstract:
A modular building block for electronic circuitry is provided with areas for mounting circuitry thereon. Posts of a particular geometric shape and receptacles of a complementary geometric shape are provided on the substrate. The posts and receptacles are coated with an electrically conductive material and connected to nodes within the circuit such that when blocks are interconnected, post within receptacle, the interconnection provides both physical and electrical connection. An alternate embodiment is disclosed having fingers and edge cards, configured such that the fingers of one block grasp the edge cards of another block, providing physical and electrical connection between the blocks.
Abstract:
The present invention comprises apparatus for connecting and disconnecting substantially planar arrays of electrical contact sites in a mechanically secure and functionally rapid and reversible manner. The invention utilizes technology availalble in the zipper manufacturing industry, to achieve a high contact site density by suitably disposing contact sites for electrical connections on zipper teeth, and through the use of a conventional zipper-type runner achieving the interconnection of a multiplicity of electrical contact sites.
Abstract:
The exterior surfaces of a laser rod and pump lamp are covered with a highly reflective metal foil to prevent light leakage from the rod and lamp. The laser rod and pump lamp operate within a cavity inside a heat sink. Between the metal foil and the housing is a thermally conductive fluidic material selected to provide a tailored thermal impedance between the heat sink and the rod and pump to optimize the steady state temperatures of these components. The conductive fluid is not circulated but is contained to act as a simple heat conductor. The optically reflective and the heat transfer functions of the laser pumping operation are essentially separate from each other, enabling selection of materials for these respective functions to enhance performance of the laser and substantially simplify its construction.

The present invention relates to a selectively conductive toy building element, comprising: a body adapted for releasable engagement to at least one other toy building element body or to a corresponding baseplate, the body including at least one conductive portion having at least one contact area adapted to generate pressure on a conductive portion or contact area of an adjacent toy building element body, in such a way that ensures electrical conduction between said toy building elements in a desired location and direction.
Abstract:
A combined wiring board has multiple piece components each including a wiring board, and a frame component having an accommodation opening portion and holding the multiple piece components in the accommodation opening portion such that each of the piece components is fixed to the frame component at an outer rim of each of the piece components. The frame component has a thermal expansion coefficient in a planar direction which is set higher than a thermal expansion coefficient of the multiple piece components in the planar direction.
Abstract:
Printed circuit board pad layouts and mechanical retainers are disclosed herein. For example, a printed circuit board is disclosed having a row of electrically conductive pads, the row of pads including pairs of signal pads with exactly one reference pad interposed between each pair of the signal pads. As another example, a mechanical retainer is disclosed that may assist in interconnecting two printed circuit boards and that has a longitudinal body with a threaded end, a head at an end opposite the threaded end, and a shank connecting the head to the threaded end.
