Abstract: Disclosed is a method for treating a grained material. A nonlimiting example of the method includes the operations of providing a workpiece having grains, exasperating a surface of the workpiece to open the grains, applying at least one coat of a base paint to the exasperated surface, applying at least one layer of clear coat on the base paint, applying at least one of a glaze and a paint on the clear coat, and surface treating to reveal grains of the workpiece. Disclosed also are items of furniture and sheet materials treated by the aforementioned process.

Abstract: Improved aluminum can end stock (CES) is disclosed. The CES includes an adhered polymer coating exhibiting low feathering and high performance in various acid tests. The low feathering and resistance to acid tests is accomplished by incorporating a copolymer adhesion promoter film to an aluminum alloy before lamination. In some cases, the metal strip is pretreated with a conversion layer, which can include compounds of trivalent chromium (Cr(III)) and phosphates or titanium and zirconium.

Abstract: The present application discloses a coating device including: a coating gun configured to apply a coating agent to an object; a sensor device configured to form a detection area in which the coating agent is detected on the object; a bracket on which the coating gun and the sensor device are mounted; and a robot configured to hold and rotate the bracket about a predetermined first axis of rotation. When the robot rotates the bracket from a first rotational position, at which the coating gun applies the coating agent to a coating position on the object, to a second rotational position in which the bracket is angularly changed by a predetermined rotational angle about the first axis of rotation, the detection area overlaps with the coating position.

Abstract: A device for processing a strip guided along a running direction may include a roller holder disposed on a base frame so as to be pivotable about a pivot axis oriented substantially parallel to a strip running surface. A first processing roller may be disposed on the roller holder in the running direction and at a distance from the pivot axis perpendicular to the running direction and offset from the pivot axis such that by pivoting the roller holder, the first processing roller is moved toward the strip and the processing roller is moved away from the strip. A first counter-processing roller may be disposed transversely to the running direction at a further distance from the pivot axis than the first processing roller such that the first processing and counter-processing rollers interact to guide the strip if the first processing roller is moved toward the strip.

Abstract: An apparatus and process for applying a coating material onto a substrate as a non-uniform layer of coating material, the method including providing a distribution manifold having a cavity and a plurality of dispensing outlets in fluid communication with the cavity, creating relative motion between a substrate and the dispensing outlets in a first direction, and dispensing coating material from the dispensing outlets while simultaneously translating the plurality of dispensing outlets in a second direction non-parallel to the first direction. Using the process, coated articles having a useful non-uniform coating or coatings can be prepared, in particular self-adhesive vapor permeable air and moisture barrier membranes for use as architectural structure wraps.

Abstract: Methods of printing indicia on PVC sheets with laser printers. The method includes manufacturing a heat resistant coating that includes each of a water based ink, a work and turn coating, and Calcium Sulfate. The heat resistant coating is applied to the PVC sheet and is allowed to dry thereon. Indicia is printed on the PVC sheet with the laser printer. During a printing process, a temperature of a fuser assembly of the laser printer exceeds 290 degree Fahrenheit.

Abstract: Disclosed is a refinishing kit for automobile paint systems including at least two markers, a reservoir with an opening, a valve which can close and open the reservoir, and a marker tip, where the reservoir includes a coating material. The valve can be reversibly opened by exerting pressure, so that the coating material can be discharged from the reservoir. The marker tip and the valve are connected, such that a pressure exerted on the marker tip is transmitted to the valve and coating material can be conveyed by way of the opening of the valve into the marker tip. Material conveyed into the marker tip can pass through the tip and can be transferred onto an area requiring refinish. One of the markers includes a coating material providing a color and/or a special effect, and the second marker includes a UV-curable clearcoat material.

Abstract: An apparatus for coating a donor surface that is movable relative to the apparatus with a layer of metallic particles or particles having a metal-like appearance and reflectivity, the particles adhering more strongly to the surface than to one another. The apparatus comprises an application device to apply to the donor surface a fluid stream within which the particles are suspended, a housing surrounds the application device forming an interior plenum for confining the fluid stream, the housing prevents egress of particles from a sealing gap defined between the rim of the housing and the surface to be coated, and a suction source connected to the housing to extract from the plenum excess fluid and particles. In operation, the suction source extracts substantially all particles that are not in direct contact with the donor surface, leaving substantially a single particle layer adhering to the donor surface upon exiting the apparatus.

Abstract: A system that reduces the amount of water that enters a process chamber via a movable shaft is disclosed. The surface of the shaft is made hydrophobic. Any water droplets that are collected on the hydrophobic shaft are disposed at a high contact angle, making it more likely that these water droplets fall from the shaft. Further, any water that enters the process chamber is more readily removed from the shaft due to the lower energy of liberation. Reducing the amount of water in a process chamber may improve the lifetime of the components in the process chamber and may improve the yield of the workpieces being processed. This may be especially relevant when process gasses that contain halogens are employed.
