Abstract: Applicant discloses a novel method of spray applying multiple courses of a rapid cure, two part polymer sealant to an aircraft surface. The method sometimes uses a two part polymer mix for use in the aircraft industry that is applied with pneumatic mix and spray gun. The two part cartridge is used in the mix and spray gun so the mix is applied immediately upon mixing, but the two components are kept separated unless the gun is applying the mix. The multiple courses cure to form a clear sealant that allows for inspection of cracks and corrosion beneath the sealant. It cures quickly so that the coated part may be further processed, for example in the assembly line during aircraft build. Applicant further discloses multiple spray gun systems for applying such a two-part polymer mix to aircraft parts.

Abstract: Gaskets, including aircraft gaskets, are disclosed, the gaskets having an elastomeric gel body and substantially incompressible skeletons. The bodies may be pliable and deformable and, in one example, may be comprised of a two-part chemically cured polyurethane that sets up as a gel after mixing with the web so that it is fully integral with the web and so that there is substantially no air bubbles or air pockets left in the web. The web may be a regular shaped web and made of nylon.

Abstract: A sealant is provided for use on an aircraft or other vehicle. The sealant may be used with a gasket. The sealant is a perimeter seal that comprises a polyurea member. The polyurea member is a self-curing, two-component mix. It may cure to a hardness in the range of about 40 to 100 (Shore A). It may maintain an adequate peel strength to withstand multiple thermal and pressure cycling, and may have a working life, wherein it may be shaped, of less than about eleven minutes.

Abstract: Applicant provides a number of embodiments of a sealant, the sealant comprising a polyurethane gel which, in some embodiments, has a thickness of 12 mil or less (uncompressed). Uses of the sealant are shown, including uses between aircraft parts under compression. Sometimes the sealant may have a very thin skeleton. Sometimes the sealant is in the form of a die cut gasket, a tape or a tacky gel sprayable. Methods for making the sealant are also disclosed. The sealants may be used pre-cured or may be sprayed on to the aircraft parts and form in place.

Abstract: A single piece gasket is disclosed having a skeletal member, typically metallic, and a pliable body. The pliable body includes a first portion having a first firmness and a second perimeter portion have a firmer consistency. When such a composite body is placed under compression, the perimeter will tend to limit the flow of the softer inner material past the firmer perimeter region or portion of the gasket. In this manner, creep or overrun of the less firm portion material will be reduced.

Abstract: A gasket is disclosed for use as an environmental seal between a first aircraft part having planer surface and a second aircraft part having a planer surface, the two planer parts spread apart and engaged with fasteners. The gasket, in some embodiments, is compressible between the planer surfaces. The gasket, in some embodiments, comprises a first tabular portion having tabular portion properties and having a first tabular thickness and a length and a width, the length and width much greater than the first tabular thickness; and a second tabular portion having tabular portion properties having a second tabular thickness, a length and width, the length and width much greater than the second tabular thickness; and a tabular skeleton. Abstract: An assembly for use on an aircraft wing having an aircraft skin and a fuel tank, the assembly comprising a metal access door for accessing the fuel tank, a metal retainer ring for engaging the wing and the access door. Fasteners removably couple the access door to the retainer ring. A lip, which may be on the wing surface, is configured to receive a perimeter of the access door when the access door is coupled to the retainer ring. A polyurethane elastomeric gel gasket having a metallic skeleton is configured to lay between the access door and a lip of the metal wing surface. Under compression, the polyurethane will deform and squeeze out the edges and flatten so as to provide metal-to-metal contact between the access door and the lip.
