Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a coating system suitable for coating metallic constitution members. SOLUTION: For manufacturing a base coat, an aqueous composition contains (i) at least one aqueous polymer dispersion wherein a polymer P has a glass transition temperature lower than 0 deg.C, and (ii) at least one water-soluble bivalent metal cation. Here, from 80 to 99.5 mass % at least one monoethylenically unsaturated, hydrophobic monomer A, from 0.5 to 10 mass % at least one ethylenically unsaturated monocarboxylic acid or dicarboxylic acid or anhydride thereof as a monomer B and, occasionally, from 0 to 10 mass % at least one ethylenically unsaturated monomer C other than monomers A and B are polymerized and introduced into the aqueous polymer dispersion, and the total mass content of monomers A, B and C is 100 mass %.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a coated product not generating while powder (ausbluehens) and not changing its strength and visual appearance with water by coating a molded product with a radiation-curable prepared product containing a polymer having ethylenic unsaturated double bonds and subsequently curing the coated product by the irradiation of UV light or electron beams. SOLUTION: The content of ethylenic unsaturated double bonds is usually 0.01-1.0 mole/100 g of polymer. The ethylenic unsaturated double bond is preferably a group of the formula: P-Z-X-CR =CHR [X is a single bond, CH2 or CO; Z is a single bond, O or NH; P is a 2-10C organic group or a single bond; R is H or methyl group; R is H, methyl group, phenyl group when X is CO or CO2 Y (Y is H or a 1-4C alkyl group)]. Silicones, polyurethanes, polyesters, polyethers, epoxy resins, melamine resins and methacrylate ester copolymers which have ethylenic unsaturated groups, respectively, are important as the polymer.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a water-based preparation that can be used in mineral formed products and gives a coating layer having low water absorption and causing no change giving adverse effects on its strength and optical appearance even after exposure to damp for a long time by using a polymer having a specific glass transition temperature and an anionic emulsifier. SOLUTION: The objective preparation comprises (A) at least one selected from polymers P that are composed of an ethylenically unsaturated monomer M, disperse in aqueous phase, have a glass transition point ranging from -25 to +80 deg.C, as a coating layer-forming component, (B) at least one selected from anionic emulsifiers consisting of salts of the formula (Alk is a 10-18C saturated alkyl; Et is 1,2-ethylene; (n) is 20-40; M+ is a monovalent cation or a cation equivalent) or a mixture thereof. In a preferred embodiment, at least one kind of nonionic emulsifier is contained in addition to the salt of the formula, and the total amount of the emulsifier is 0.2-10 wt.% based on the component A.

A1 and/or a 1-C alkanol methacrylic ester A2. The monomer B is an ester of an α,β-ethylenically unsatd. carboxylic acid having a 1-12C alkanol and different from the ester A2 and/or a vinyl ester of an aliphatic carboxylic acid. The monomer C is an α,β- ethylenically unsatd. monomer other than the monomers A, B. The volume concn. of the pigment in the 1st preparation is higher than that in the 2nd preparation by at least 10. The glass transition temp. of the copolymers is in the range of -25 to +80 deg.C.

Abstract: The use of an aqueous polymer dispersion for modifying cement bonded mineral coatings for concrete mold bodies. The polymer comprises: (A) a polymer P in the form of ethylenic unsaturated polymer particles with a glass transition temperature of -20 - + 80 C; and (B) an emulsifier for stabilizing the polymer particles. (A) comprises: (i) 90 - 99.9 wt. % hydrophobic, monoethylenic unsaturated monomer(s) (M1) from styrene, butadiene, 1 - 4 C alkylester of methacrylic acid and 2 - 12 C alkylester of acrylic acid; and (ii) 0.1 - 10 wt. % hydrophilic, monoethylenic unsaturated monomer (M2) comprising up to 2 wt. %, based on the total amount of monomer of a monoethylenic unsaturated monomer(s) containing an acid group (M2a) and/or up to 10 weight. % thereof different hydrophilic monomer (M2b). (B) comprises: (a) the salt of a sulfuric acid half ester of an alkoxylated alcohol, containing a 4 - 20 C alkyl chain(s) (salt a); and (b) an alkoxylated alcohol containing a 4 - 20 C alkyl chain(s) (compound b). An independent claim is also included for the preparation of a mineral coated concrete roofing slabs, comprising: (i) conventional manufacture of the uncoated roofing slabs blank; (ii) application to the damp blank of a cement bonded mineral mixture comprising the novel aqueous polymer dispersion, inorganic pigment dye, conventional additives, cement and water; and (iii) removal of the roofing product.

Abstract: Surprisingly, use of an aqueous coating composition containing: (i) an aqueous polymer dispersion giving a polymerizate P of sub-zero Tg value, containing an aqueous monoethylene unsaturated monomer A), an ethylenically unsaturated mono-or dicarboxylic acid or their anhydrides as monomer B, and an ethylenically unsaturated polymerized monomer C, (ii) and a water soluble salt or complex salt of a divalent metal gives coatings on metal building parts of very good adhesion. Use of an aqueous composition containing (i) at least one aqueous polymerisation dispersion, of which the polymerizate P has a glass transition temperature below 0 degrees C containing (wt.%): at least one aqueous monoethylene unsaturated monomer A (80-99.5), at least one ethylenically unsaturated mono-or dicarboxylic acid or their anhydrides as monomer B (0.5-10), an ethylenically unsaturated singly polymerised monomer C, different from A and B, where the weight proportions of A, B, and C = 100 wt.%, and (ii) at least one water soluble salt or complex salt of at least one divalent metal. Independent claims are included for: (1) a process for coating metal building components by coating with a first coating composition as primer and coating the primer with at least one extra coating composition, where the primer coating is selected from the compositions described above; (2) a metal building component obtainable by the above process.
