Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a radiation-curable material as a coating material in an external region by adding specified amounts of a urethane acrylate and a photoinitiator to a radiation-curable compound. SOLUTION: A radical-copolymerizable ethylenically unsaturated compound is prepared as a radiation-curable compound. A urethane acrylate obtained by allowing a polyisocyanate and a hydroxyalkyl (meth)acrylate to react with a chain extender such as a diol, polyol, diamine, polyamine or dithiol is added to the radiation-curable compound by 10-100 wt.% of the total amount of the compound and a photoinitiator is also added by 0.1-10 wt.% based on 100 pts.wt. of the compound. The photoinitiator is phenylglyoxylic acid, its ester, its salt other than ammonium salt or a derivative of the compound.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a coating material radiation-curable on substrates such as metal, leather and wood by mixing a water-dispersible polymer and a water- soluble compound each of which is radiation-curable and having α,β-ethylenic unsaturations with water in a specified ratio. SOLUTION: 5.0-90.0 wt.% water-dispersible polymer being radiation- polymerizable and having at least one α,β-ethylenic unsaturation (e.g. ester of an α,β-ethylenically unsaturated monocarboxylic acid with a hydroxyl- containing polycondensate) is mixed with 0.1-90 wt.% compound (e.g. aliphatic epoxide acrylate) being radiation-polymerizable, having at least one α,β-ethylenic unsaturtion and being water-soluble or capable of being diluted with at least 10 wt.%, based on the total weight of the material, water, at most 20 wt.% arbitrary photoinitiator, at most 60 wt.% filler, at most 20 wt.% additive and water. Thus, a high-solid-content coating material which requires no physical drying after application can be obtained.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a coated product not generating while powder (ausbluehens) and not changing its strength and visual appearance with water by coating a molded product with a radiation-curable prepared product containing a polymer having ethylenic unsaturated double bonds and subsequently curing the coated product by the irradiation of UV light or electron beams. SOLUTION: The content of ethylenic unsaturated double bonds is usually 0.01-1.0 mole/100 g of polymer. The ethylenic unsaturated double bond is preferably a group of the formula: P-Z-X-CR =CHR [X is a single bond, CH2 or CO; Z is a single bond, O or NH; P is a 2-10C organic group or a single bond; R is H or methyl group; R is H, methyl group, phenyl group when X is CO or CO2 Y (Y is H or a 1-4C alkyl group)]. Silicones, polyurethanes, polyesters, polyethers, epoxy resins, melamine resins and methacrylate ester copolymers which have ethylenic unsaturated groups, respectively, are important as the polymer.

In the step of distillation, water is added to distillate the acids S.

Abstract: Radiation-curable urethane prepolymers are made from a mixture in which the isocyanate component contains two different trifunctional isocyanates or one tri- and one di-functional isocyanate, or the unsaturated polyol component contains at least two different unsaturated compounds with reactive hydroxyl groups and possibly other hydroxy compounds. A process for the production of radiation-curable, urethane group-containing prepolymers (PU) comprises reacting an isocyanate component (A) containing trifunctional isocyanate(s) (A1) and optionally difunctional isocyanate(s) (A2) with a polyol component (B) containing unsaturated compound(s) with at least one reactive hydroxyl group (B1) and optionally other OH group-containing compounds (B2), in which either (A) contains two different compounds (A1) or one (A1) and one (A2), or component (B) contains at least two different compounds (B1). Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) radiation-curable urethane prepolymers obtained by this process; (2) radiation-curable preparations containing prepolymers (PU) as above and possibly conventional additives etc.; (3) a process for coating substrates by applying PU or preparations containing PU to the substrate, removing any solvent; and hardening with UV or electron beam radiation; (4) coated substrates obtained by this process.
