PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing an aqueous solution of a copolymer, wherein the time of occupation of a reactor for producing an aqueous solution of a copolymer can be shortened by avoiding or reducing foaming. SOLUTION: In producing an aqueous solution of a copolymer comprising (a) 50-99.5 mass% of at least one ethylenically unsaturated monocarboxylic acid and/or dicarboxylic acid (monomer A), (b) 0.5-50 mass% of at least one ethylenically unsaturated compound (monomer B) selected from an ester of an amine having at least one hydroxy group with an ethylenically unsaturated monocarboxylic acid, and a monoester and diester of the amine with an ethylenically unsaturated dicarboxylic acid, and (c) up to 20 mass% of at least one other monomer (monomer C), the monomers A, B and C are polymerized in an aqueous medium in the presence of at least one foam inhibitor. PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a pressure sensitive adhesive having an improved adhesive power and/or cohesive power. SOLUTION: This adhesive consists of a polymer including 60 to 95 wt.% of a monomer mixture (monomer a) comprising one or more kinds of 4C alkylacrylate and one or more kinds of 6 to 12C alkylacrylate, 5 to 30 wt.% of ethylenic unsaturated compound(monomer b) excluding other functional groups except ethylenic unsaturated group and the polymer of this monomer has glass transition temperature >=0 deg.C, 0 to 10 wt.% of an ethylenic unsaturated compound (monomer c) including one or more acid group or acid anhydride group, and 0 to 20 wt.% of other ethylenic unsaturated compound (monomer d), the weight ratio in wt.% is based on the obtained polymer, and the polymer dispersion includes an emulsifier including at least 5 wt.% of aromatic carbon atoms (abbreviated as aromatic emulsifier) or an emulsifier mixture comprising at least 10 wt.% of the aromatic emulsifier.

The use of copolymers (CP) as adhesives is new. These copolymers (CP) are derived from (a) 70-100 wt.% vinyl ethers, and (b) 0-30 wt.% other comonomers, and contain hydrolysable organosilicon groups of formula -Si(R )x(OR )3-x (I), in which R , R = 1-20C alkyl or 5-30C aryl, alkaryl or aralkyl; and x = 0, 1 or 2. Also claimed are (i) adhesives containing copolymers (CP), and (ii) copolymers (CP) as above, in which the hydrolysable groups (I) are obtained by copolymerisation with vinyl ethers of formula H2C=CH-O-Z-O-CH2CH2-SiR x(OR )3-x (III), in which R , R , x = as above; and Z = 1-20C hydrocarbyl or halohydrocarbyl, optionally containing more oxygen atoms.

Formaldehyde-free binder composition in powder form comprises a maleic anhydride/alpha-olefin copolymer and a crosslinker having at least two reactive groups capable of reacting with the carbonyl groups of maleic anhydride.
