Abstract: A fabric, fleece or felt etc of predominantly synthetic fibres is impregnated with an aq. soln before, during, or after its consolidation with binders based on dissolved or dispersed polymers. The saq. soln contains pref. 7-25% polyethylene-imine; it also contains cross-linking agents with several functional gps. pref. to 2.5-10% of the wt of polyethylene-imine. The impregnated and consolidated material is dried at 80-160 degrees C with infra-red or hot air. The final prod. is suitable for shoes, garments or cushion covers.

Abstract: Textile washing compsns. contain, as phosphate substitutes powdery cation exchangers, (I), based on crosslinked polyacrylic acid or polyacrylate salts, prepd. by polymerisation of acrylic acid and/or its alkali- or NH4 salts in an aq. medium, in the absence of a radical-forming initiator. (I) have a Ca-bonding capacity >230 mg CaO/g, and allow use of low-phosphate to phosphate-free detergents. (I) do not cause greying of textiles; can be collected in clarifying plant; do not pollute drinking water; resist microorganisms in water and do not contribute to biological O2-demand of the waste waters. Absence of radical-forming initiator improves yields and Ca-bonding capacity.

Abstract: A process for the preparation of insoluble, only slightly swellable, granular polymers of basic vinyl-heterocyclic compounds and of their copolymers with up to 30% by weight of copolymerizable monomers and 0.1-10% by weight of crosslinking agent by exclusion of (atmospheric) oxygen from the mixture of monomer and crosslinking agent, without addition of any initiator or catalyst, and the use of the polymers obtained as ion exchangers, adsorbents and carriers for proteins.

Abstract: In the parent patent textile flat goods with increased capacity for absorption of water vapour are prepd. by (a) treatment with polymeric binders and impregnation with 6-4 wt. % of glycidyl ethers, and (b) drying the impregnated textile at increased temp. while fixing the glycidyl cpd. by means of cps. contg. NH gps. In this addn. the glycidyl ethers are replaced by cpds. of formula (I) R -( O (CH2CH2O)p-CH2-CH(OH) -CH2Cl )-q where R is a 2-13C (un)branched 2-6 valent (cyclo)aliphatic hydrocarbon gp.; p = 1-30; and q = 2-6. Conversion prods. of (I) with cpds. contg. NH gps. may be used in place of (I). (I) are very stable and are cheap. The treated textile is a synthetic leather.

Abstract: In the process for prepg. consolidation, textile sheets of increased water-vapour absorption capacity by consolidation with polymeric binders and impregnation with organic substances then drying at high temp., the sheet is impregnated with 6-40 wt.% (on bonded and impregnated matl.) of a glycidyl ether of formula (I): (R = 2-6 valent 2-13C (cyclo)aliphatic residue; p = 1-30; q = 2-6), and this is fixed to the sheet via NH-gp. contg. substances. In prodn. of synthetic leather substitutes for use in shoes, upholstery etc. These matls. have water-vapour absorption capacity of about 20 wt.% similar to that of natural leather.
