Abstract:
The invention concerns absorber elements consisting of at least one composite with absorbent elements on a carrier, the invention being characterized in that on at least one carrier a plurality of elements of a superabsorbent foam are arranged in a grid-like manner at spacings such that the peripheries of the elements touch in the swollen state.
Abstract:
The foam is based on a copolymer (I) of styrene with 2-50 mole-% 1,1-diphenylethene (II). Also claimed are methods for making the foam in various forms. The beads are produced by impregnating (I) granulate having an average diameter of 0.1-3 mm with a volatile blowing agent in aqueous suspension at 100-180 degrees C and then either (a) cooling the suspension, separating the granulate and foaming by supplying energy in a separate stage or (b) depressurising the hot suspension and hence foaming the granulate directly. Mouldings are made by from the prefoamed beads by foaming and welding in a mould. Boards and sheets are made by plasticising (I) in an extruder, mixing with a volatile blowing agent and extrusion through a wide slit die, with foaming.

Abstract:
Particulate self-extinguishing thermoplastic molding compositions based on styrene polymers containing volatile blowing agents are surface-coated with an organic bromine compound and, to stabilize the bromine compound against photodegradation, a N-hydroxyphenylbenzotriazole or a hydroxybenzophenone. The molding compositions may be used for the manufacture of foams by expanding the blowing agents at elevated temperatures.
