Abstract: C6 compounds of the formula (I) E-CH2-CH=CH-CH2-E1 (I) are prepared by self metathesis or cross metathesis of compounds of the formulae (II) and/or (III) R-CH=CH-CH2-E (II) R1-CH=CH-CH2-E1 (III) where E, E1 are independently -CHO, -COOH, -COOR2, -C(O)NR3R4, -CN, R, R1 are independently H, C1-12-alkyl, C6-12-aryl or C7-13-alkylaryl and R2, R3, R4 are independently H, C1-12-alkyl, C7-13-aralkyl, in the presence of a homogeneous catalyst comprising ruthenium compounds or ruthenium complexes.

Abstract: The invention relates to a method for producing novel surfactant alcohols an d surfactant alcohol ethers by derivatising olefins with approximately 10 to 2 0 C-atoms or mixtures of such olefins to produce alkanols and optionally, subsequently alkoxylating them. The method is characterised in that a C4- olefin-mixture is subjected to metathesis, the resulting olefins are dimeris ed and then derivatised to produce surfactant alcohols, and these are optionall y alkoxylated. The olefin mixture obtained from dimerisation contains a large proportion of branched components and less than 10 wt. % of compounds containing a vinylidene group. The invention also relates to the use of surfactant alcohols and surfactant alcohol ethers for producing surfactants by glycosylation or polyglycosylation, sulphation or phosphation.

Abstract: An aqueous polyalkylene dispersion is prepared by ring opening metathesis polymerization of a poorly water soluble cyclic olefin using a micro-emulsion. Abstract: Cationic ruthenium complexes are of specified formula. Abstract: The invention concerns a process for preparing tetrahydrofuran by reacting 1,4butene diol diethers of formulae (I) -RO-CH2-CH=CH-CH2-OR and/or (II) -RO-CH2-CH2=CH-CH2-OR, in which the R groups can be identical or different and stand for C1-C15 alkyl or cycloalkyl groups, C6-C12 aryl groups or C7-C15 aralkyl groups, with water and hydrogen at temperatures of between 20 and 300 ~C and a pressure of between 1 and 300 bar in the presence of catalysts or catalyst combinations which both contain components which can hydrogenate and comprise acid or basic centres. The invention further concerns a novel process for preparing the 1,4-butene diol diethers of formula (I) by metathesis.
