    Abstract: A process for separating butanol and dibutyl ether from a mixture containing water, dibutyl ether and n-butanol, 2-butanol and/or iso-butanol, in which: a) the mixture is introduced into a first distillation column, butanol is essentially separated in its sump and the mixture drawn from the top of the distillation column is b) introduced into a second distillation column and essentially dibutyl ether is separated off in its sump and the mixture form at its top is drawn off, whereby c) the second distillation column is operated at a higher pressure than the first and at least one of the two mixtures drawn off from the head of the distillation columns is taken to a phase separation, where in the case of phase separation behind the first distillation column, only the separated organic phase is taken to the second column and, in the case of phase separation behind the second column, the phases are separated into an aqueous and an organic phase and a partial flow from the head or concentration section of the second distillation column is fed back into the first column.
