Abstract: Polyisobutenylphenol-containing Mannich adducts are prepared by a) alkylation of a phenol with highly reactive polyisobutene at below about 50° C. in the presence of an alkylation catalyst; b) reaction of the reaction product from a) with formaldehyde, an oligomer or a polymer of formaldehyde and at least one amine which has at least one secondary amino function and no primary amino function, or c) reaction of the reaction product from a) with at least one adduct of at least one amine which has at least one secondary or primary amino function and formaldehyde, an oligomer of formaldehyde, a polymer of formaldehyde or a formaldehyde equivalent, and are used as detergent additives in fuel and lubricant compositions, and additive concentrates, fuel compositions and lubricant compositions contain these Mannich adducts.

Abstract: The invention relates to a method for producing Mannich adducts that contain polyisobutylene phenol by: a) alkylating a phenol with highly-reactive polyisobutylene having a numerical average molecular weight of less than 1 0 00 and with a polydispersivity of less than 3.0, at a temperature lower than 50 ~C and in the presence of an alkylation catalyst; b) reacting the reaction product from a) with; b1) an aldehyde, selected among formaldehydes, with an oligomer and with a polymer of the formaldehyde, and with; b2) at least one amine which has at least one primary or one secondary amino function. The invention also relates to Mannich adducts that can be obtained by using this method, to the use of the Mannich adducts as detergent additives in fuel compositions and lubricant compositions, and to additive concentrates, fuel compositions and lubricant compositions containing these Mannich adducts.

Abstract: New mixtures (I) of dicarboxylic acid diesters with isomeric nonanols consist of adipate or phthalate diester mixtures having 1H-NMR spectra (obtained in CDCl3) with specific ratios of surface areas below the resonance signals for particular chemical shifts towards TMS. The ratio of the surface area for shifts of 1.0-2.0 ppm to that for shifts of 0.5-1.0 ppm is 1.20-5.00 for the adipate diesters; and the ratio of the surface area for shifts of 1.1-3.0 ppm to that for shifts of 0.5-1.1 ppm is 1.00-4.00 for the phthalate diesters; An Independent claim is included for mixtures (II) of isomeric nonanols which either: (i) form (I) as defined above on esterification with adipic or phthalic acid; or (ii) are obtained by hydroformylation of a mixture of isomeric octenes in presence of a cobalt catalyst and hydrogenation of the product, where the isomeric octene mixture is obtained by contacting a hydrocarbon mixture containing butenes with a heterogeneous catalyst containing a nickel oxide.

Abstract: The invention relates to a method of preparing surface-active alcohols and surface-active alcoholic ethers which are well suited for use as surface-active agents or for the preparation of surface-active agents. To this end, olefin mixtures containing a predominant share of branched dodecenes are prepared from olefin mixtures containing less than 30 % by weight linear hexene isomers, using a catalyst containing nickel, and derivatized to form surface-active alcohols which are then possibly alkoxylated. The invention also relates to the use of said surface-active alcohols and surface-active alcoholic ethers for the preparation of surface-active agents by glycosidation or polyglycosidation, sulfation or phosphation.
