Abstract: The invention relates to composite elements of a polyamide layer A which was produced by polymerisation of activated alkaline lactam and at least one cover layer B consisting of polycarbonate or polyamide imide. The composite elements are preferably produced by covering a polyamide moulding on both sides with the cover layer film and press-moulding the layers together with heating. The composite elements can be further processed by press-moulding to form finished parts, for example for the automobile sector.

Abstract: Polyesterimides are made by reacting together (A) melamine; (B) >=1 tricarboxylic acid, and/or its anhydride, acid chloride or esters with low monoalkanols; (C) >=1 polyhydric alcohol and opt. (D) >=1 aromatic dicarboxylic acid or their esters with low monoalkanols, using a molar ratio (A) : (B) of 1:1.1 to 1:3, in the presence of catalysts and opt. polar organic solvents, at 150-295 degrees C. The products have good flexibility, heat resistance and electrical insulation props and are esp. useful as wire enamels.

Abstract: Aq. polyesterimide precondensate dispersion-based temp.-resistant coating, impregnating and luting compsns. hardening at 180-550 degrees C, contain 0.1-5 wt.% (w.r.t. pre-condensate) organic oxo-Ti cpd. (I) as hardening catalyst. Compsns. are useful as insulation systems for electrical engineering, e.g. wire lacquering. Heat-shock temps. increased up to 50 degrees C; improved heat penetration; hardness of stoved coatings increased by 1-2 hardness degrees; softening point increased by 20-50 degrees C.

(1)-(6) are bulk, suspension or emulsion copolymerised using an initiator a water-dilutable protective colloid and 1-25% epoxide resin and opt. other additives. Powder produced requires milder curing conditions, is insensitive to impurities, gives high gloss finish, and has high resistance to solvents and abrasion.

Abstract: A magnetic recording vehicle is mfd. by preparing a dispersion of a finely divided magnetic pigment (eg. gamma-Fe(III)-oxide) in a binder based on a copolymer of monoolefinically unsatd. monomers and an inert solvent (eg. toluene), with opt. admixture of usual additives; applying a layer of the dispersion onto a substrate (eg. a PVC or polyester film or tape) and drying or hardening. The copolymer used forms hard coatings and contains (A) 5-40 wt.% of units of formula R(CH2)C-X-Y-O-CO-CH2-Z (where X is COO or S; Y is divalent aliphatic 2-12 C (oxa)hydrocarbon; Z is COCH2 or CN; and R is R when X is S, or H or CH3 when X is COO; and (B) 60-95 wt.% of units of acrylates and/or methacrylates which may be replaced by up to 30% units of other comonomer units. Good abrasion resistance hence long service life.
