Abstract: Production of aromatic aldehyde, ether, acetal and ester compounds (I) by electrochemical oxidation is carried out in an electrolytic cell with a solid state electrolyte, consisting of one or several superimposed layers of cation exchange membrane, a cathode and an anode in direct contact with this and an electrolysis liquid. Production of aromatic aldehyde, ether, acetal and ester compounds of formula (I) with an oxidation number of 1-9 from aromatic compounds of formula (II) with an oxidation number NOTLESS 1 lower by electrochemical oxidation is carried out in an electrolytic cell with a solid state electrolyte, consisting of one or several superimposed layers of cation exchange membrane, a cathode and an anode in direct contact with this and an electrolysis liquid. The liquid is an organic solution, free from conducting electrolyte, containing 10-90 wt. % methanol, 1-50 wt. % compounds selected from (I) and (II), including NOTLESS 1 mol. % (II), 1-50 wt. % optionally N-alkylated 1-15 carbon (C) carbonamide or 3-15 C N-alkylated urea and 0-30 wt. % other inert solvent. R = hydrogen (H), 2-4 C alkyl, 1-4 C alkoxy or halogen; A, X = methylene, carbonyl or methoxymethylene (-CH(OCH3)-); B, Y = H or methoxy (OCH3); m = 0-3; n = 1-3. The oxidation numbers of (I) and (II) are obtained by adding the oxidation number for each group A and B or X and Y, which is 0 if A is methylene, 1 if A is methoxymethylene and 2 if A is carbonyl, 0 if B is H and 1 if B is methoxy.
