    Abstract: Free-radical-crosslinkable copolymers having a number average molecular weight of from 1500 to 6000 and a molecular weight distribution corresponding to a polydispersity of from 1 to 4.0, obtainable by polymer-analogous reaction of A) a copolymer (A) comprising a1) from 50 to 85 mol % of a monomer (a1) containing the methacrylic acid structural unit and a2) from 15 to 50 mol % of another free-radical-polymerising monomer (a2), where a3) from 5 to 50 mol % of the total amount of the monomers (a1) and (a2) are monomers (a3) carrying functional groups which are capable of a condensation or addition reaction, obtainable by a free-radical bulk or solution polymerisation at from 140 to 210 DEG C and a mean residence time of from 2 to 90 min, with B) an olefinically unsaturated monomer (B) carrying a functional group which is complementary to that of the monomers (a3). The free-radical-crosslinkable copolymers are used as binders for powder coatings (paints).

    Abstract: A water dispersible, radiation curable polyurethane comprises organic aliphatic or alicyclic polyisocyanates, cycloaliphatic diols and/or cycloaliphatic diamines, compounds having at least one isocyanate reactive group and at least one radically polymerizable unsaturated group and compounds having at least one isocyanate reactive group and at least one dispersion aiding group. A water dispersible, radiation curable polyurethane (I) comprises: (A) organic aliphatic or alicyclic polyisocyanates; (B) cycloaliphatic diols and/or cycloaliphatic diamines; (C) compounds having at least one isocyanate reactive group and at least one radically polymerizable unsaturated group; (D) compounds having at least one isocyanate reactive group and at least one dispersion aiding group; (E) optionally compounds having at least two isocyanate reactive groups having a mol. wt. of less than 1000 g/mol; (F) optionally compounds having at least one isocyanate reactive group that are different to (A)-(D). Independent claims are included for: (i) a polyurethane dispersion (II) comprising the polyurethane (I) and optionally 0-10 wt.% of a photochemical and/or thermal initiator and 0-10 wt.% of a UV absorber and a HALS compound; (ii) a process for the coating of substrates by application of the polyurethane dispersion (II), optionally containing conventional paint additives, onto a substrate and curing by means of electron irradiation or UV light under oxygen, or preferably under inert gas; (iii) the resulting coated substrate.

    Abstract: The invention relates to a method for the production of adhesive-free, reduced-migration and reduced-yellowing coatings, in particular Foliendeckstrichen. Inventive coating materials containing less than 0.1 weight % of a photoinitiator and even in the absence of a photoinitiator can be hardened by exposure to UV-radiation, if the coating materials contain (meth)acrylate groups (A) and >CH-O-ether structure units (B) in certain minimum amounts, whereby (A) and (B) can also be accommodated in one molecule or in different molecules. The method exhibits many economic, technical and toxicological advantages due to said reduction of the amount of photoinitiators or the absence of photoinitiators.
