Abstract: Photopolymerizable mixtures of (a) one or more block copolymers, (b) one or more photopolymerizable, ethylenically unsaturated, low molecular weight compounds and (c) a photopolymerization initiator, with or without (d) other additives, contain as component (a) block copolymers which are composed solely of elastomeric polymer blocks, and contain two or more elastomeric polymer blocks having a glass transition temperature of from -20 DEG C. to +15 DEG C., linked by one or more elastomeric polymer blocks having a glass transition temperature of below -20 DEG C.

Abstract: 1450906 Polyurethane layers; photopolymerizing unsaturated monomers BASF AG 3 Dec 1973 [4 Dec 1972] 55919/73 Headings C3R and C3P Polyurethane layers are prepared by adding a compatible monomer having at least two photocross-linkable C-C multiple bonds or a compatible monomer mixture comprising at least 50% by weight of one of such monomers and not more than 50% by weight of a photopolymerizable monoethylenically unsaturated monomer, and optionally also a photopolymerization initiator, to a liquid polyurethane elastomer forming reaction mixture comprising (A) (i) a polyether, polyester, hydroxypolyether urethane or hydroxypolyester urethane or a mixture thereof with a polyalcohol and/or a diamino and (ii) a diisocyanate or (B) (i) a prepolymer of a hydroxyl compound as defined in (A) and a diisocyanate and (ii) a polyester, polyether, hydroxypolyester urethane, hydroxypolyetherurethane, polyhydric alcohol, or diamine or a mixture of two or more thereof, the resulting mixture containing a major amount of the polyurethane elastomer-forming reaction mixture, applying the resulting mixture to a substrate to form a layer, irradiating the layer with electromagnetic radiation of wavelength less than 0À7 Ám to effect photocrosslinking of the monomer(s) and gelling of the layer and thermally curing the so-treated layer. The layer is suitably formed on a continuously moving substrate and has a thickness of from 0À2 to 5 mm. Conventional polyurethane elastomer-forming reactants are used. The monomer having at least two C-C multiple bonds is preferably an olefinically poly-unsaturated carboxylate, for example a diester of a C 2-6 aliphatic diol and acrylic or methacrylic acid, a triester of a C 3-10 aliphatic triol and acrylic or methacrylic acid, a divinyl ester of a C 2-8 dicarboxylic acid, a diallyl ester of a C 2-8 dicarboxylic acid and a vinyl ester or allyl ester of a C 3-5 olefinically unsaturated monocarboxylic acid. The unsaturated monomers are preferably used in amounts not exceeding 10% weight of the reaction mixture.

Abstract: Laminated plate for the prepn. of relief printing plates, as described in the parent patent, comprises a layer (I) of photoinitiator and opt. other conventional additives in a developer soluble photocrosslinkable compsn. (II), an underlayer (III) of a developer insoluble, non-photocrosslinkable elastomer having a Shore A hardness of 15-70 and a developer insoluble, non-photocrosslinkable stabilising layer (IV). In this addition (II) comprises >=1 soluble diblock copolymer (V) and >=1 photocrosslinkable unsatd. monomer. (V) comprises 75-85 wt. % 4-6C diene units of which >50 wt. % are isoprene units and 15-25 wt. % styrene units and has a viscosity of 150-250 ml/g (measured as a 5 wt. % soln. in toluene at 25 degrees C). The copolymer shows a sharp transition between the polystyrene segment and the polyisoprene segment and contains 4 wt. % homopolymer. (V) Can be easily synthesised in two steps, has good solvent and melt processability and can be cast or extruded to low tolerances of thickness.

Abstract: Laminates for the production of relief plates for flexographic printing, by imagewise exposure and washing out with a developer solution have, on a base optionally provided with an elastomeric layer, a photo-crosslinkable layer containing a photoinitiator and consisting of a polyurethane elastomer which has been prepared in a special manner from an aliphatic saturated polyesterglycol, an aliphatic diisocyanate, but-1-ene-3,4-diol and, if desired, another diol and which has a Shore A hardness of 30 to 90 DEG in the photo-crosslinked state, the elastomer being optionally mixed with a photo-crosslinked monomer.
