Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a polyurethane useful as a material for coating by reacting a specified polyhydric alcohol with an isocyanate. SOLUTION: This polyurethane which is suitable as a material or component of a coating material is obtained by reacting a prepolymer (a) obtained by reacting a polyhydric alcohol having more than one isocyanate-reactive hydroxyl group per molecule with an aromatic or aliphatic polyisocyanate in a ratio of the number of the isocyanatte-reactive hydroxyl groups to the number of the isocyanate groups of below 1 with an isocyanate selected from the group consisting of aromatic or aliphatic polyisocyanates (b) and a chain extender (2) obtained by reacting a polyhydric alcohol (a) with a compound (b) having an epoxy functional group and additionally an alcohol-reactive functional group, a reaction product (b) of the reaction product with an α,β-olefinically unsaturated carboxylic acid, and reacting this reaction product with an amine having a reactive prim. amino group.

Abstract: An adhesive layer (B) forms the interlayer between similar or different cholesteric layers (A1) and (A2) in a cholesteric laminate material with the layer sequence A1/B/A2. Independent claims are also included for: (i) a process for the production of cholesteric laminate material by: (a) coating a base with a first coating material which is hardened to form layer (A1); (b) coating (A1) with a second material containing heat- and/or pressure-activated adhesive(s) to form a laminate A1/B with adhesive layer (B); (c) coating another base with a third coating material which is hardened to form layer (A2); (d) laminating (A2) with (A1/B) under elevated pressure and/or temperature to form laminate A1/B/A2; (e) stripping off the second base; and optionally (f) stripping off the first base; (ii) a process for the production of multilayer cholesteric flake pigments with the layer sequence A1/B/A2 by milling the above material to a particle size of up to 200 microns; (iii) cholesteric flake pigments obtained by this process; and (iv) compositions and coating materials containing these multilayer pigments.

Abstract: A magnetic recording material is produced by spreading a dispersion of anisotropic material particles together with other particles in a fluid solution over the surface of a corner. The solution consists of a polymer binding agent in an organic fluid. The material is passed through a magnetic field to orientate the magnetic particles. The mixture has carbon in a water repellent polysilicic acid in 0.3 to 5 percent by weight. ADVANTAGE - Avoids high wear resistant over wide temperature range.
