Abstract: Cationic polyurethanes and polyureas formed from(a) at least one diisocyanate or reaction product thereof with one or more compounds containing two or more active hydrogen atoms per molecule, and(b) at least one diol, primary or secondary amino alcohol, primary or secondary diamine or primary or secondary triamine each with one or more tertiary, quaternary or protonated tertiary amine nitrogen atomsand having a glass transition temperature of at least 25 ° C. and an amine number of from 50 to 200, based on the non-quaternized or -protonated compounds, or other salts of these polyurethanes and polyureas, are useful as ingredients of cosmetic and pharmaceutical preparations.

Abstract: Aqueous copolymer dispersions are obtained by radical initiated copolymerisation or by copolymerisation initiated by the use of ionising radiation of: (A) 40 to 99 % by weight of one or several water-insoluble, monoethylenically unsaturated monomers; (B) 1 to 60 % by weight of one or several water-soluble, monoethylenically unsaturated monomers; and (C) 0 to 30 % by weight of one or several ethylenically polyunsaturated monomers, in an aqueous medium in the presence of 2 to 20 % by weight, in relation to the total monomer amount, of surface active compounds as emulsifiers. These dispersions have a mean particle size from 5 to 37 nm as determined by light scattering in the aqueous medium. Such dispersions are suitable for preparing varnishes, paints and adhesives, as film-builders in hair-care cosmetic compositions, as protective media against ultraviolet light and as carriers for substances contained in pharmaceuticals, cosmetics or agrochemicals.

Abstract: The invention pertains to the use of cross-linked copolymers produced by precipitation polymerization of monomer mixtures of: (a) monoethylenically unsaturated C3 to C8 carboxylic acids, their anhydrides or mixtures of said carboxylic acids and anhydrides, (b) compounds with at least two ethylenically unsaturated, non-conjugated double bonds in the molecule as cross-linking agents, and as needed; (c) other monoethylenically unsaturated monomers that are copolymerizable with monomers (a) and (b) in the presence of radical-forming polymerization initiators and, relative to the monomers used, 0,1 to 20 wt% saturated, nonionic surface-active compounds, as stabilizers in oil-in-water emulsions, in quantities of 0.01 to 5 wt% relative to the emulsions and in cosmetic and pharmaceutical preparations based on oil-in-water emulsions that contain said precipitation polymers.

(A) is new when they contain as (I) at least 5 mole% polycondensate of lactic acid with a polyol of formula Y(O(CO-CHMe-O)nH)m. Y Is residue of 2-4 valent alcohol; n is 1-50; m is 1-4.

Abstract: The use of polyurethanes which are soluble or dispersible in water and comprises the reaction product of a) at least one compound which contains two or more active hydrogens per molecule, b) at least one diol compound containing acid groups or salt groups and c) at least one diisocyanate compound with an acid number of from 12 to 150 or salt of these polyurethanes as aids in cosmetic and pharmaceutical compositions, and of polyurethanes which are soluble or dispersible in water and which contain (a) at least 5 mol % of a polycondensate of lactic acid and of a polyol of the formula wherein Y is a radical derived from a dihydric to tetrahydric alcohol n is 1-50 and m is 1-4 as copolymerized units.

Also claimed is the preparation of the cosmetic products comprising forming a copolymer from maleic anhydride and an olefin of formula R -X-CH=CH2 (II), reacting the copolymer with a benzophenone derivative of formula (III) and formulating the final copolymer with standard auxiliary agents and additives.
